Description Velociraptor I made for the Dinosaur contest at
www.deviantart.com/journal/Din…

Before anyone comments about feathers, I'm sticking with the Jurassic Park versions. I love JP ever since I first watched it. Inaccurate or not I still love it.

Anyway, here is my entry. When I saw the theme was going to be Dinosaurs, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make this guy. I have big plans for him and future Velociraptors. The skin pattern is made with fabric markers since this was the first time making one. Everything is poseable except his inner toes.

I wanted to make an open moth for him like I did with Titan, but since he is smaller scale, it didn't work out as well. Plus, Titans teeth go outside his mouth like a T-rex, Velociraptors dont, so I couldn't get it to work as well.

Thank you!

Having a theme or a fresh idea can really drive the inspiration.

Thank you :3

I thought about making a Triceratops or something for it to attack, but since I couldn't do the open mouth I skipped it.

Maybe the next theme will be exactly what you need!

Aww so cute! It turned out wonderful! And I feel you with the JP thing. I love feathery raptors but I also love the JP versions too, even if inaccurate to the raptor model.
The markings look great too!

Thank you!

I do like both versions too, but the JP style ones will always be my favorite. Even if the size is all wrong and those would have been Utahraptors or something, I still like them.

I couldn't decide on stripes or spots lol.

I feel you! It took me a long time to wrap my head around "feathers? Preposterous!" and so the featherless types will still be more of my go-to just for nostalgia sake. You can still love something and know it's inaccurate!

Dromaeosaurs all had feathers, it's pretty likely that all dinosaurs had at least the most primitive form of feathers too.

That aside this is adorable and I want one!

But there are different kinds of raptors; is dromaeosaur the family that holds all raptor species? I love dinosaurs but I'm such a newb to the science... ;w;

Dromaeosaurus is one genus of Dromaeosaurid, and all of them were feathered. There are quite a lot of raptors and the family that holds them is the Dromaeosauridae. There are tons of raptor-like dinosaurs that aren't part of the same group. They look similar but they aren't that evolutionarily close, take Guanlong for example. Outwardly it looks pretty raptor-ey but it's actually more closely related to T.rex than to any true raptors.
