Description
This is a 5 part pocket etch a sketch compilation of the famous sculpture known as the laocoon. It was an assignment for my Art History 2 class to make your own artistic interpretation of this sculpture, and our teacher didn't want us to just redraw it, so I decided that I was going to do it in 5 portions, each with a different style of shading and rendering. My personal favorite is the 8bit version, which I plan on using in future work.
The piece took roughly 5 hours, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. This is the first assignment I have been able to do in etch a sketch at my art college, so I was totally on board with it
The picture of the laocoon (which I used for reference) is on the upper right, so that you can get a better idea of what I was going for.
EDIT: 2-19-11 Thank you so kindly for the Daily Deviation! I am truly honored!

Do you go to SCAD? We did this same assignment of the Laocoon at the Telfair Museum. You are brilliant with an etch-a-sketch. O__O

You deserve a medal for doing something as complex and intricate as this... In fact, most of your work is incredible!
Doing something as intricate as this on an Etch-a-Sketch is absolutely insane!

This is an awesome idea. I'm glad you could use this medium for your class ^_^ The different styles are great, you really showcase the potentially diverse uses of the Etch-a-Sketch.
And I just love this sculpture. The story behind it is so screwed up and awesome, I love it ^_^
