Description
This is a 5 part pocket etch a sketch compilation of the famous sculpture known as the laocoon. It was an assignment for my Art History 2 class to make your own artistic interpretation of this sculpture, and our teacher didn't want us to just redraw it, so I decided that I was going to do it in 5 portions, each with a different style of shading and rendering. My personal favorite is the 8bit version, which I plan on using in future work.
The piece took roughly 5 hours, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. This is the first assignment I have been able to do in etch a sketch at my art college, so I was totally on board with it
The picture of the laocoon (which I used for reference) is on the upper right, so that you can get a better idea of what I was going for.
EDIT: 2-19-11 Thank you so kindly for the Daily Deviation! I am truly honored!

lol I already got it back from him, so I am safe. I am glad I already got photos of them all. I think I am going to erase a few because I am low on blank etch a sketches.

Hehe that's good - it's a shame you have to erase them, but at least they're preserved in photo (otherwise you'd have 100's of etch-a-sketches o3o)

well, that is my eventual goal, draining them all so that I can keep them
I want my room to be filled with hundreds and hundreds of etch a sketches!

I bet you'll pass that assignment with flying colors! ... and if you don't, your teacher obviously isn't able to appreciate amazing etcha-sketch artwork. This is simply wonderful , it's pretty awesome you're able to do this so well, especially considering when you have to erase something on the etcha-sketch you have to erase it all, it's not like you can exactly erase specfic portions of the etcha sketch.

It was kind of funny that you mentioned that, because everyone got their grade on a sticky note, and I approached him because my assignment (I printed it out so that he didn't erase it, haha) didn't have a sticky note on it. He just looked at it and said "full credit"
Haha, thanks! There is a way to erase about half of it, but you just gotta get it right the first time; it's easiest that way.

thank you! I am glad to hear that I am not a let down
I have some other non-etch a sketch related things to upload, but I am taking my time so that I don't upload a million things at once, and so that I can have etch a sketch work interspersed more in my gallery.

I taught myself when I was about 4 how to use an etch a sketch by playing with it a lot, and then I just kept practicing with it. Then I got serious about 4 years ago, in my sophomore year of high school.

oh thats cool. i just started getting serious about painting to tell you the truth. I had always hated painting, including that fact that I could never make details well. But after I had to do this art midterm a few weeks ago where I painted my dads old jean jacket, I started to like painting. Then I tried painting tiny pictures and I ended up being pretty good at it, so it kind of just came to me. ^^
