Derrick is from a small pack of Houndours/Houndooms in a small forest in Sinnoh. His father is the leader of the pack and Derrick was next in line. However, one day he, his sister, and his friend was checking the borders of their territory. When they encountered a female Buizel, who was just passing through. Derrick challenged the Buizel to a battle before she could pass. Derrick ended up losing and he was very surprised at this. Despite his type disadvantage, he has beaten water Pokemon before, even the other types he was weak against. Never before has he lost a match. Derrick was very impressed with this Buizel, that he left his pack to follow her. His father wasn’t very pleased with his decision, but there was no talking Derrick out of it. Derrick finally caught up with the Buizel, who identified herself as Lilly. Both of them traveled through Sinnoh for a few years and finally they realized they had feelings for each other. They became official mates and lived together. Soon they discovered an injured Pikachu, named Sparkle. Both of them, especially Lilly, nursed the Pikachu back to health, which afterwards traveled with them. They were a small team and eventually they met Stara and Midnight. Both the Pokemon traveled with the small group. And after more four years, Derrick ended up at Sparkle’s old home in Viridian Forest, Kanto.
There Derrick found a small home where both him and Lilly could live.
