Description
It’s a Frenrey and Boomer double date!
(i like the idea of giving Gordon those loose bangs on one side of his face since it’s similar to how Wayne styles his own hair. it’s a cute throwback i’ve seen many Gordos designs do.)
Headcanons about HLVRAI under the line because I can’t make up my goshdarn MIND:
I keep jumping around on whether I want my interpretation of HLVRAI to be set in a “not a game” scenario or “yes this is all happening in a game/simulation” scenario. I think I prefer a a sort of mix of game/real life scenario, but where the Science Team get to live in a simulation of the real world after everything’s over. Like at first Gordon thinks he’s just a guy experiencing a VR simulation, but then comes to the realization that he himself is an AI implanted with the mind/memories of the IRL Gordon who unknowingly volunteered himself to the IRL Black Mesa for experimenting. Because Black Mesa is just fricked up like that.
Benrey (who’s essentially an alien virus combined with the mind of another unfortunate Black Mesa test subject who didn’t realize what he was volunteering himself up for) went ahead and got rid of the final boss before the game started because they thought it would help, but instead made the simulation freak out and force them into the role of final boss instead because there needed to be one. This was why he acted so overly aggravating/malicious in Black Mesa. This was also why he sometimes acted confused or said confusing things (ex. “what happened to your arm?” or “SONY CEO JACK TRETTON SURVIVED A NUCLEAR--A NUCLEAR BOMB”), because a part of them deep down was trying to fight back against the “script”, but he could never say what he really wanted to. It always came out as nonsense instead.
After all the Resonance stuff went down and the Science Team beat the game (the first time at least *winkwink*), Benrey was freed from the script and got to reconnect with everyone and help them destroy the IRL Black Mesa’s control over the simulation. He’s still aggravating (being "possessed” didn’t mean his whole personality was overwritten or anything--he’s still a little shit), but it’s never malicious. They just like to mess around.
Oh and Gordos can turn his arm back into a gun at will because it’s dope.
sure wish i was capable of writing fanfiction like a cool person instead of barfing all this out in an incomprehensible ramble
