Description

Doused in my own blood, I sprinted across the mountain road. The roar was deafening. There was no one else to chase save me now. Everyone else was dead.
I managed to stay on my feet long enough to make it to the river. The frozen depths seemed darker. But they vanished as blood spurted from my shoulder. Pain spread over my back like a blanket of thorns. I fell.
It would be over soon.
Then I heard it. A high-pitched whistle cracked over me.
THUD
I dared to look back and saw the demon dead on the ice. Its red muscle was contorted into an unnatural and broken shape. The cause became obvious. A bolt was buried in its right eye socket. My heart sang out, I was saved!
"Hey, are you ok? That looks ba-"
The words blurred into meaningless echoes as the world darkened. I needed a rest. Only I hoped it wouldn't be my last. I hadn't thanked them.
