During Christmas night Aphmau found herself to have shrunk to the size of the toys that were once again fighting the rats that were trying to invade the room. She looked to her left and saw the Rat King smiling. He attempted to grab her but was interrupted by the Nutcracker's spear. The Nutcracker still wore Aphmau's ribbon around his face. The Rat King pulled back as the Nutcracker made another attempt on his life. The Nutcracker grabbed Aphmau's hand and pulled her through a hole in the wall which led to another world. The world was filled with fantastical creatures such as fairies. The Nutcracker introduced himself as Garroth. He explained that the curse be broken by killing the Rat King.
So part of Garroth's curse is that his hands don't have fingers because he's a nutcracker. I also love ballet and I actually saw the Nutcracker ballet recently. Sadly it wasn't a story-based version but it was still beautiful.
