I love this guy.Started it at the end of January. Then I lost me sketch-book and couldn't draw. There was a lot of drama, because I thought I had lost it at school or that it was stolen. Luckily I found it again, behind the sofa in the living room. *sigh*
Then I didn't feel like drawing for a couple of months, and I didn't want to force myself.
Then a week ago I started with my drawing of Zack, but yesterday I decided to finish this one first.
I am glad I did, because it turned out better than I had hoped it would be.
Took me around 12 hours.

I used a 0.5 B pen-pencil-thing.
5B to make the black blacker.
Paper: 210 x 297mm, 180grams.
The scanning was hard, because the lighting erased some of the finer points. Had to edit the scanning-stuff before actually scanning. Then I made the black blacker with Dodge Tool. Rest is unchanged.

OHGOD that's beautiful. I wish I could render shadows that smooth with my pencils. XD

Well, it takes a lot of time and going over it over and over and over and over. XD
What I always do it hold me pencils lighly and not straight above the paper. Then I slowly make the shadows, but in a way that every part of the area is covered. Do it lightly and then rub a softly with my finger. Then I go over it again and again until it's the exact tone that I want it to be.
Hope that helped a bit.

It's really a feeling that I tried to create, but it was more difficult than I thought because he's wearing lenses and those mask the eyes. But I'm glad to hear that people think the eyes really spreak.

Well, I tend to exaggerate the shadows most of the time to give the drawing more personality. I'm not sure where I found the pic either. Somewhere online, and I'm pretty sure it was scanned bij rawkstarr. XDD

Thanks for saying that you see that I've grown in my work. I noticed that as well the other day. A few years ago I always rushed, you know? Always wanted to have it finished as quickly as possible, but it made me end up with drawings that weren't really finished.
I also think that my drawings are a great example to show how much I changed as a human being as well. I have more patience to finish a piece of artwork, which shows that in real life I have more patience than before as well.
Crisis Core is awesome. I'm so glad that I could steal my brother's PSP, because it's amazing. Too bad you can't play it, because it's really a game I recommend. But maybe one day, yeah? I'm saving up for my own PSP now as well, it's totally worth every penny.

Yeah, you should. There's some really great ones out there, and when I saw this shoot I just wanted to draw him. So I searched for a pic that would be easiest to draw. It still wasn't easy, though. XD

Thank you so much! People like you really motivate me to draw more. Not just for the compliments, but to hear someone elses opinion, someone who draws themselves as well. People around me are all "That's amazing!" but they can't draw, so their opinion is different than that of someone who draws as well, don't you think?
I've seen some great art on here. Some people really have the potential to create beautiful pieces of work, but you can see in their shading and shaping that they don't have the patience to sit out 10+ hours for a drawing to complete it.
My friends and I were talking about art, and I told them that I think anyone can draw as long as they take the time for it. You know what they say, it pays to be patient. xD
I did a fullcolor drawing half a year ago, a landscape. First I want to buy a set with more colors before I go make actual portraits, because with 10 colors I won't get that far. But thanks for encouraging me to do it!

What I figure is that because I kept thinking of him non-stop while drawing is what really makes the drawing 'speak'. Not sure how I did it, but I think that thinking about the person you're drawing non-stop while drawing makes the drawing better.
Of course I could also be talking crap right now.
