So.... guess who's excited for the next issue of Batman Black and White? This girl!I was obsessed with the Gotham Academy comics back when they were being published, and how could I not? The art styles used were different from comics normally published by DC (hence why I love comics like this series and the likes of Li'l Gotham) the characters were written in a way that didn't make them feel one dimensional even if they seemed like it at first, and the story is what I like to describe as "Harry Potter meets Scooby-Doo set in Gotham". If you have the chance to read the Gotham Academy comics and their sequel series Gotham Academy: Second Semester (and their crossover with the Lumberjanes comics) then I highly recommend it.
Anyway, Mia Mizoguchi, better known as Maps due to her love of making, studying, and graphing maps, is one of the main characters of GA who's probably interacted with the Batfamily the most. Aside from the brief (and at some point wholesome) encounters with Bruce and his vigilante persona, Batman, she's teamed up with Tim Drake as Red Robin at one point and has had multiple encounters and team ups with Damian Wayne both as himself and as Robin to the point where Damian's referenced her as a friend.
She's also fallen in love with many, many of Batman and Robin's gadgets. There are actual panels of her seeing a batarang and going heart eyes, and having a day dream of her marrying a grapple gun, and I love her all the more for it. It's adorable!
It was also revealed in one of the Yearbook short stories that she dreams of becoming one of Batman's Robins to the point where she's snuck into the GCPD in order to use the bat signal to call him there, only to be found asleep by Batman who returned her to her dorm but also left a message saying how he liked her drawings she made of her as Robin. Again, this scene was so wholesome. No one can tell me Bruce doesn't like kids.
This brings me to why I'm excited for Batman Black and White 4: We get to see a story of Maps becoming a Robin and going on a mission with Batman to investigate the occult mysteries of Gotham's past which, in all honesty, is right down Maps's alley. The Gotham Academy series was all about going into the past of Gotham, particularly in the case of Arkham Asylum which was right across from the school and what some of the school buildings had been renovated from, and GA also dealt with the likes of secret societies and ghosts.
The comic is released on March 23 if anyone's interested. I'm hoping to get my hands on a copy (considering it's coming out on a Tuesday and I won't be able to go out shopping until Saturday unless my mom "okay"s me going out after classes end. I'm also hoping to get a copy of the next Nightwing issue since he gets a three-legged puppy which I'm also all there for.)
I don't own DC!
