Description \(;v; )/ It's taken me almost the entire contest to do this, but I did it. I was a little afraid that I wouldn't get it done in time. Woo! I hope the little story panels look okay! GGOD THIS IS A LONG DESCRIPTION? SORRY

EDIT: Oh for pete's sake, I forgot to color his white underbelly on the clothed version. Consarn it all. Pthp, I'm... Just gonna have to leave it, I suppose!
__________________________

Name: Lyon -- pronounced like "lion."
he/him/his

Title: Threadweaver, or Weaver  (the fomal name he uses with strangers)
__________________________

Appearance: An obscenely fluffy aetherling about the size of a domesticated cat, with a beard that would make any self respecting goat cringe from envy. He wears modified doll clothing made from silk scraps dyed (appropriately) in shades of mulberry, detailed with gold thread made from his processed fur. The saddle is the seat of a doll's rocking horse, refinished to hold a magically enlarged replica of the cocoon he was sparked from to hold any silk fibers he can't fit onto his spools or into his packs. He has no traits that would be considered uncommon for an aetherling.

Essence: Silk (in general- any naturally forming silk fibers can be absorbed as his essence. Silk producing insects, plants, or weird magical animals... anything that makes silk! All it really is is a specific type of protenacious fiber that has a cool prismatic structure, so lots of things can make it. For example, did you know that some crickets produce silk? Creepy!)

Lyon's crystals resemble cocoons, and have a rough, "spun" texture to them. (that wouldn't count as shaped, would it? I just mean that they're kind of irregular and lumpy when you run your finger over them)
He rather dislikes the way they hang from his face and sides because they remind him of warts. P:
__________________________

Personality: Chaotic || Neutral   Reserved and moderately selfish, with a penchant for telling harmless (if not misleading) lies. Lyon is profoundly uninterested in the world beyond the mulberry grove, even so far as his own people are concerned. He finds little interest in magical or mystical studies, and even fewer in the mundane activities of humans (his own excluded, of course). If approached, he's evasive and marginally polite at best, downright dodgy at worst, and even though he has truly nothing much to hide, you'd think he was running a crime ring with how suspicious he acts. On the other hand, Lyon cares deeply (and rather selfishly) for his friends, and would gladly perform any number of questionable acts to give them a leg up. Friends can expect unlikely silk charms woven supersticiously into the seams of their clothes for protection, good luck, or well-being, though even Lyon himself doesn't know if they do anything. His main drive is continued comfort for himself and the people he cares about, and he's willing to work hard to have it easy later. Of course, working "hard" doesn't necessarily mean working well, or even scrupulously, but............

Interests and Skills (+/-) :

He has a passion for textile design and weaving. It's one of the few true doorways to open communication with him, fuzz-headed as he is.
Also enjoys insects of any kind- he finds them charming in a familiar way; eat, run, rest, grow. It's a welcome reminder of his days as a bean, and plus? It's kind of cute to see the little creatures scurry around.
Well kept nature is a plus- tended forests are beautiful and calming; Unkempt bramble patches full of spanish moss and who knows what kind of uncivilized wildlife? Not so much.

+Minor knowledge of enchanting and charm weaving from the witches trading for his cloth
+Minor understanding of human fashion
+Intermediate knowlege of trade routes and barter from his human companion
+Intermediate awareness of local geography from his human's desire to travel
+can speak common and earth dialect

- Little to no knowledge of aetherling society
- Deeply supersticious despite his knowledge of magic (or maybe because of it?)
- Distrusting of other magical creatures and beings (though he could hardly be called warm towards humans! You could say it stems from resentment, or loneliness, or feelings of abandonment... but he'd deny it all! HA.)

Early History: Lyon came into being on an old, moderately distinguished silkworm farm beginning to decline in prosperity with the years. Situated within the confines of a forest, and requiring several days travel to get to the nearest city, it became increasingly difficult for the aging members of the family to keep up the connections needed to move their product. The normally well maintained mulberry orchards slowly turned to overgrowth, and the commercially bred silkworms were easy prey for pests of all kinds. Abandoned cocoons, spider, silkworm, or otherwise, piled up around each other with no one to remove them. Eventually, stray wisps of magic already present in the grove coalesced within the gathering of cocoons, and a rather fat little bean was born.

The fluffy aetherling was found and taken in by the only daughter of the family, who promptly named him "Lion" after the golden things in her few animal books. Of course, a farming and textile family (even one involved with silk) isn't liable to know much about magic, except that it is a thing that definitely exists. The poor dears had no idea what this fluffy little thing was, beyond an unusually intelligent pest that was steadily eating through all their unsold stores of silk. If anything, they were even more disturbed when the thing they had jokingly been calling their "pet" began to talk- clearly, and intelligently, in perfect common.

Lyon eventually earned the gratitude of his strange adoptive family (rather passively, I might add) through his shed crystals and fur. His crystals, when stored near thread or cloth, impart a magical shine and toughness without sacrificing feel, and his wooly fur can be spun into golden thread that has just the slightest glow about it in low light. (Over the years, some witches have started to swear by the aetherling's thread for divination of good luck, though whether this is true is.... questionable at best) Even his presence itself seems to have a beneficial effect- the silkworms are healthier than ever, and many of the adult moths seem to be steadily increasing in size, generation by generation.

Of course, one friendly aetherling does not a successful business make! The family never recovered financially, and only a few bolts of cloth produced with magical assistance ever made it to market. Eventually, much of the extended family moved on or died off, leaving a rather lonely farming estate in the middle of a mulberry grove of unusual and alarming size. The only two still around to tend to the worms are Lyon and his human, and he is perfectly happy that way. Few humans from the neighboring city even remember that the farming estate exists at all- whether that was a passive effect of Lyon's magic, or merely the passage of time, the fact stands that few know where the fine cloth the trader-woman peddles every so often comes from. Safer for everyone that way, I'd imagine.
Lyon and his human get by moderately well, of course- magically enhanced cloth found a surprising market in the form of hedge witches and their apprentices, who are more than happy to trade favors and spells for the interesting items the two offer.

The Threadweaver himself is fine with solitude- a quiet place to practice his skills and a steady supply of food? What could be better? Though his human... well, it's obvious the isolation is getting to her. Sometimes he'll catch her looking at maps by candlelight, or tracing roads in the dirt, and he'll vaguely wonder how long it will be before he is the only one left on the farm- or whether he and his human will remain at all.
