As for learning to draw like me, I dunno! I just sort of learned by observing, imitating other styles, and lots and lots of practice. Some good resources for learning to draw:
Noah Bradley's Art Camp (costs money) - This guy works on card art for Magic: the Gathering, among other things. He's extremely personable and great to talk to, and his videos on learning how to draw are extremely instructive.
Chris Oatley's Podcast - Lots of stuff on here about drawing and the drawing industry.
Color and Light , by James Gurney - Hands down the BEST ARTBOOK I have ever had, and the only one I regularly reference. (I referenced it on this picture in fact!) He talks very matter-of-factly about phenomena like why you don't see red at night, or what reflects off snow, or what happens to colors at sunset. It's a little advanced, but I feel like there's so much a person can learn from this book. Also the dude did Dinotopia so obviously he's pretty great.
PurpleKecleon's "How I See Color" - Another great little tutorial about color and light that really helped me.
ConceptCookie - A great tutorial resource!
Other than that, I mostly learn from specific tutorials on deviantart and experimenting. All of my digital painting experience is just trying things out and seeing what works, as well as going through a whole buttload of things that look awful that I never show anyone, haha.Β
I think more than anything what's helped me improve is volume, though: I just draw and draw and draw. I usually draw at LEAST every day but usually I spend most of my day drawing anyway since it's my job, haha. Certainly gotten better at ponies since doing that.Β

So there's a lot to be said just for sticking with it.

At least on my end, it's just that Feather Moon by Vienna Teng always gets me in a painting mood, and almost always makes a sad picture involving snow come out, haha. But if someone writes a fic off this picture, I'd love to read it, because I want to know too!
