She's the 2nd born, but ends up becoming the heir of the kingdom when her mother kills her elder sister, Dusk Dreamscape. Unbeknownst to Twilight, Silent inherited Luna's power on the day she was born. Being a blind alicorn (born unicorn, but assumed a natural-born alicorn, due to the fact that Twilight had just birthed her when she gained her wings and nopony knew otherwise), she was assumed weak.
