Use a 'base' (body that someone makes or I could make it myself) and then draw on clothes, hair, makeup and everything I want to add.

mmmm. i thought i had commented on this! O_o . i didn't? >< apparently not O_O. LOL XD i adore your alice to pieces! the colors are soo soft and beautiful all over, she looks so smooth in those pastel shades i really, realy like this doll, i want her striped stockings! and the folds on the dress are to die for!!! i just had to fave her! reminds me that i have to work on a doll of alice with cheshire cat that needs to be finished ><
