Description Purchased from the United Kingdom by the Royal Hong Kong Navy on 14 January 2003. The ship was handed over to Hong Kong in August, 2004. The first ship was commissioned on 9 September 2004 with the pennant number F21. It was followed by 2005 with pennant number F22. The Royal Hong Kong Navy had a 76 mm OTO-Melara gun system fitted forward where the Exocets had been mounted, but no missile systems or additional weapons have been fitted. Task to expand Hong Kong's navy into the blue water navy capability and taking the role of UN mission and also conducting patrols in the South China Sea. Prior to the ship's commission, although they don't have ASW or maritime helicopters, they often used AS332 from the Government Flying Service, task with maritime SAR roles alongside with Royal Hong Kong Navy until the arrival of the Wildcat Helicopters. 

The Type 22's maximum speed is 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph) (cruise) and 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph) (max) with the range of 8,000 nautical miles (15,000 km; 9,200 mi).

However; the Hong Kongese Type 22 only armed with 1x Oto Melara 76mm gun system and 6 torpedo tubes as well a handful of general purpose and heavy machine guns. 

The ships of this class were named Hermione F21 and Helen F22, respectively after characters from Greek Mythology.

Following the arrival of the Mythology-class, a MEKO A200 Frigate, they were officially decommissioned in 2017.
