The layer of green grass cushioned the sound of hooves as the group continued on their ascent. The path had started going upward awhile back and was straining everyone's legs but the bouncy canine in the front kept her head high and her assured expression on her face. She had wandered, as she usually did, and stumbled on something truly amazing. She wasn't too sure if it could be of any use for them but it was a sight to see.
She knew her parents weren't too fond of her endless vanishing and exploring of the isles but it allowed her to discover marvelous places and intriguing things. Like that ruined city, she had found herself in or these archways a little everywhere on the isles. She had no idea what they all meant but it had to be something for them to be everywhere, right? Yet, she couldn't help but hear the annoyed huffs and grunts in her back as the rest of her group sounded more aggravated the more they climbed.
"Are you absolutely certain of where you are going ?" someone asked again.
"Yes, I am! It's better to see it all from up there ! Trust me." Weevil answered.
"Does that mean we'll have to go back down this track to actually get to the thing?"
Weevil's mouth shut as she had not exactly thought of it. But... the sight itself would be enough. If it wasn't for her forever feathery companions of travel, she would have never had the idea to take heights and realize what all of what she was seeing was about.
"Just trust me, we're really almost there." was the only answer she offered.
Eventually, she could see the end of the cliff and felt her tail wag in relief and satisfaction. Without hesitation, she trotted faster until she reached the end of the walkable way.
"There! That's what you needed to see! It's just like the old stories!"
And when she turned to face the rest of the expedition, she immediately saw the various expressions on their faces. Surprise, awe, relief also somehow... And Weevil felt ecstatic.
"See? I told you all! It's like a giant place of rest! Like that story about the one who laid down after drinking from a spirited waterfall and falling asleep but never waking up and becoming a mountain." she exclaimed happily, pointing down at some of the shapes in the valley below.
There was a lot of what could be taken for oddly shaped rocks or giant ground formations. When she had been walking through the first couple of times, she had just found them weird but she had seen a lot of weird things in her travels anyway and had not really taken any account out of it. But once she had seen all of this from above? It was more like a giant's battlefield.
A hand landed on her shoulder and she turned back to her smiling dad. She knew he would love the sight of it. With all the story he'd been telling her and kept telling. And knowing her mom's craftsmanship, if they could manage to take some of these giant bone pieces, it could definitely help with either weaponry or even their houses. Yes, it was a demanding trip but it was worth it in the long run. And Weevil was very satisfied with herself for having the idea in the first place.
