here's the other of celestia and luna's moms! this is queen artemis, god of the moon (as compared to luna's god of the nighttime)

Queen Midnight Lullaby Deus Artemis Nightmare, Lune Invictus

she/her - transgender mare - lesbian - fully ascended alicorn - 7,000+ years old (calls herself 29 since that's how old she was when she ascended)

as a person, artemis is the moon. she's very cold and grumpy and introverted, preferring to keep to herself and her work. however, she's actually very community minded. when she's in her element she's quietly helping people build community and help each other. you know how if the earth stopped rotating the moon would keep orbiting it until it got back up to speed? that's what artemis is like. she doesn't care for the spotlight and is happiest behind the fires of a forge. she's very creative and has a lot of hobbies. very musically gifted. she's very kind and gentle, especially since she is Huge Large. she has a heavy boston-like accent.

artemis is technically queen of equestria, along with her partner solaris (well, partner sort of, she and solaris have... Things going on). however, after the nightmare moon incident she was mostly cut off from her power thanks to the elements of harmony being overprotective and she refused to live in the castle's basement in retirement/as a dirty little secret. while celestia is princess-regent she has been traveling around the planet as an earth pony named midnight lullaby (a translation of her name from back when she was mortal). a couple years before the show she wound up in ponyville thanks to solaris' magic Hunch. she wants to be there for her daughter when she comes back. right now she's ponyville's primary smith, creating both practical things and beautiful filligree jewelry. she has a wonderful working relationship with rarity.

the tl;dr on her backstory is that about 8 thousand years back an old empire accidentally blew up the moon and had to put it back together Weirdly and Badly. the machine used to raise the new moon and keep it in orbit around the planet sapped the magic from the ponies forced into using it. nigh a thousand years later and artemis was living as an earth pony named midnight lullaby. she was her father's only child (she believed she was a stallion at the time) had to live with the impending burning of the lands thanks to solaris' rage. when the fires approached, artemis was the only one to recognize that there was a person causing the flames and approached the impending doom with kindness and a lullaby. in gratitude solaris handed her the moon and she raised it, becoming an alicorn in the process.

her eventual relationship structure looks like a) her and solaris' Secret Third Thing Millennia's Worth Of Do Not Separate Them marriage/divorce thing b) her gf rarity and c) their joint gf spitfire

celestia and luna were born ~1700 years ago :> artemis was pretty okay as a parent but she's not immune to also having screwed up her kids

she doesn't have a cutie mark because as a fully ascended alicorn her whole body is her cutie mark! also i hate designing them.
