Happy belated birthday, Super Mario Land! Man, I love those two games! (Wario Land doesn't count, but I like that series, too)Tatanga is the final boss of the first SML and a boss in the second. Those are his only game appearances (I think). Should've been in Galaxy, along with a remix of this: [link] Missed opportunity, IMO.
Having a song in Brawl was nice, but I would like more references to SML1 and 2 in Mario games. Maybe New Super Mario Land? Well, I'll just keep dreaming. :3
