Description
March of the Machine © Magic: The Gathering © Wizards Of The CoastThe March of the Machine is upon us, as the New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse has begun. As usual, I am once again covering the Gold Signpost Card theme around the Limited Archetypes that you could play in draft and Standard with this being the 2nd to last for 2023 Standard, the next being The Aftermath.
Knight tribal: With the Invasion, there would need to be some brave soul to take the frontline, and what no better than our fellow Knight. Yep, it seems like Azorius White-Blue took up another tribal theme, last was the Brother War with the Soldier. And maybe you can count the Artifacts theme from Phyrexia: All Will Be One. No matter, it a good way to build a tribal around Knights and what do you know, This Singposts is not only a fellow Knight that'd give a lock down ability but also buff your other Knights, with the flavor that the Knight of Zhalfir, A once kingdom on Dominaria, trap within the void, now returning, now taken the invasion back into New Phyrexia.
Graveyard matters: Let's face it, there’re gonna be some casualties and losses, in fact there are some losses. But that doesn't mean you have to make use of those that once fell. Still it just you stander Dimir Blue-Black graveyard controlled theme, making sure you fill in the Graveyards to take advantage. And the Signposts, being a Faerie that give your instant or sorcery some what one-used flashback spell, with the flavor being that Halo from New Capenna, being one of mean to repled the Phyrexian.
Sacrifice: War is Hell. Sometimes you have to make some risk, you have to make some Sacrifice to win against the Invasion. Of course, this’s the same Rakdos Black-Red Archetypes as always. But like I said, get some good death trigger creature or some token for sacrifice fodder and you're good to go. And with this Signpost, you are allowed to make the Tarkir Ogre more powerful.
Battles: With War, there are Battles and your job is to win that battle, even if you have to go headstrong. The Gruul Red-Green Archetypes is all about the New Card type, the Battle. Which are double faced cards that you (at least for Siege) give your opponent that you and any of their opponents can attack, becoming its defender. Once the defense is down, you are awarded with cast the back side of that card (for free). And this Signpost makes anyone attacking the battle more stronger, overwise it get a buff.
+1/+1 Counters matter: Strength is need agent the invasion. And all you need is something that makes you stronger. A plus so to say. The Selesnya Green-White is making use of the One Plus counter that is all over the battlefield. These Signposts not only come with their own two counters but get more counters if you put counters on those that don't have counters on them before. Yeah, that a lot of Plus counters.
Phyrexian tribal: The Machine Legion will not fail! The glory of the Legion with Triumph! Blow down to our Mother Norn! You will submit to us! Woah, don't know what came over me, but em... Yeah, Orzhov White-Black is a Phyrexian tribal, I mean it a given, Elesh Norn had basically taken over the Phyrexian itself. But the Signpost is alright. Not only come with that incubate (that I'll cover in Black-Green) but also give our Phyrexian a little one-one.
Convoke: In a time like this, everyone, and I mean everyone must work together to conquer a win, the better the number, the better the spell. And man, how funny, Izzet Blue-Red is taking Selesnya's mechanic, as those that don't know, when you casting you can tap some creature you controlled to make it cost lest that you could cast for free if you tap enough numbers. And in a way, it makes sense, as Blue-Red are known for casting their spells more than summoning creatures. Sure there are some that make tokens, but baby steps. But still the Signpost is alright, you get two tokens and make those that are convoking do some bunding.
Incubate: Phyrexian have one trick up their metal sleeve, why not send an army, when you could grow one in battle for you. Golgari Black-Green it taken another of Phyrexian theme, that being the Incubate a 1st ever double faces token, that are Phyrexian version of Amass, the fount side a artifact that come with some number of +1/+1 counters that you can pay 2 mana to transform into the back side, a 0/0 Phyrexian token. And with those +1 counters. You can grow these monsters big. Which is what this Signpost card can do. As it not just Incubate 2, making that artifact with two +1/+1 counters, but if you used it ability it will double that number.
Backup: With a thought battle upon us, there is always that hope, that being you getting some backup that would turn the tide. Boros Red-White is all about that backup. A New mechanic that when entered, you put that a number of +1/+1 on a target creature, that creature would have that card ability for that turn. Meaning in flavor there lending their ability, backing you up, where there dealing summoning sickness. And it seems like this Signpost is something heroic, as it will double that backup trigger for you. How nice of them.
Transformation matters: With the ever changing battle, they are those that would take advantage of said transformation. And it seem Simic Green-Blue is making Archetypes around the double-faces card. With the battle, Incubate, the Compleat cards. Not to forget Innistrad Day-and-Night Bounds cards and Kamigawa's Sagas. There's a lot of Transformation cards. And it seems this Signpost card cares too much with transformative permanent you control that it’s getting some power over it (and is willing to join the Phyrexian.)
