Description
See that boy on my block? He sits there, steady as a rock.
From what I heard he never moves,
Unless his boys find something to do,
Then they take him from his empty home,
his porch, where you'll find that boy alone
Day, by day, by day, by day...
I once wondered if he'd leave someday.
But from what I've now seen he moves at night,
Out of the light and out of sight.
I've seen that crew before, and I knew
that the rumors about them are always true.
They're the ones who shot that man one day,
But no one remembers anyway.
But I never thought I'd see that boy from my block
With that gang, running from those cops.
He raised his hand like I've seen him do in class,
Then the other, then both behind his back.
The boy shook and slid and sighed
against the car, refused to get inside.
I remember the siren and his yell.
I remember red and white and then he fell,
on the cold pavement, then I saw that boy's face
when the cop kicked up dirt and called him a disgrace.
But today, that boy's sitting on my block,
As solid and steady and lifeless as a rock.

While the actual flow can sometimes feel a little off in poetry, unless you're actually going for a smooth feel, I say just express yourself as best you can.
Flow is easier to make happen after you've got your thoughts down.
