Professor Willow here, to tell you about the popular and fascinating pokemon, Houndour. Like most of the canid pokemon, Houndour gets a lot of attention, both positive and negative. What some perceive as a strong, sensitive creature, others superstitiously imagine is a dark, merciless killer. It's true that wild Houndours are killers. They travel in well co-ordinated packs, bringing down prey many times larger than themselves, using barks and howls with different meanings to keep themselves organized. They're commanded by the alph- well, that's a different issue.

My point is that, although Houndour in the wild are carnivores, they can by caught and trained away from their natural killing tendencies. A safer way of ensuring a more docile pokemon, however, is good breeding. After breeding several generations of only trained houndours together, their offspring will be a tame as a Piplup!

Along with breeding out the killer instinct, other traits have been selected for the desired houndours over the years. Spedial breeders have bred Houndours of different sizes, builds, and even colors. The most common variation of Houndour, considered ideal for Contests, is the fancy Houndour.

• Breed Differences

Common Houndour: A common Houndour is caught straight out of the wild. The reason run-away and released fancy breeds don't contaminate the wild population is that they tend to be less suited to survival on it's own. Also, they're less likely to be accepted into a pack and it's almost unheard of for them to gain breeding privileges. Common Houndours are stocky and muscular, and have a short muzzle that can latch onto it's prey's throat with deadly strength. Silver bands adorn it's back and ankles, also, a silver head plate with a remarkable resemblance to a skull. these decorations seem to show the ranking status of the Houndour within it's pack. Houndour's have a short, glossy coat of black fur, with a red-orange muzzle and belly.

Fancy Houndour: A fancy houndour has longer, silkier fur than it's common counterpart. It's silver bands are often engraved with designs and identification information. Because fancy Houndours are more expensive and in demand, it's inconceivable for one to not have identification information on a collar or a microchip. Fancy Houndors also sport a longer muzzle and a slimmer build.
