(Part two of Base Edit Short Story: ~Hello~ )

"Come on Jay ! He's right over here..." Alyce is so excited to show her new friend off to her other friends. Her hooves squish over the marshy ground into a small patch of meadow; this is the place she left Absolem so she could fetch Jayden. Sure enough the skull-horse was waiting patiently for her return.
"His name is Absolem. Isn't he just the coolest?" She inquires excitedly, looking up to scan Jayden's face for any sort of reaction.

Jayden strains their eyes, trying their hardest to locate the horse Alyce is talking about. There's nothing here but whispering grass! "Uhhh sure Alyce...I'm very pleased to meet your invisible buddy." They aren't sure why she had to drag them all the way out here for this. But then again Alyce is slightly bizarre to begin with. They shift their weight awkwardly.

"Huh? Jay, he's right in front of you. He's literally head-bobbing right now." Alyce's eyebrows wrinkle in confusion.
Absolem looks at her blankly, not at all surprised by Jayden's blindness. She'll figure it out for herself one day. He yawns and heads off for a thicket of pine to take a nap under.
"Wait Abby, they didn't mean it! Come back!" Alyce is worried that Jay somehow made Absolem upset. She calms down some when the blue creature flicks his tail lazily in reply. "You're scared, I get it Jay. That's no excuse to make fun of him like that. Lying isn't a good virtue."

"Alyce, I'm not kidding! I literally cannot see what you see!" Jayden wails. They pin their ears in distress at being accused of fibbing when they really weren't.

Alyce is equally distressed. "But you must be able to! Ask Elvira, Mano, and Esmerelda; they let him into the herd without hesitation. Which means he's visible." Her words falter at this point. Now that she thinks about it more, only Esmerelda seemed confident. The other two seemed unsure but were playing along. Maybe, just maybe, Jayden couldn't see Absolem? Then which horses could and why?
"Oh. In retrospect, maybe only Esmerelda saw him. I believe you Jay...I'm sorry for acting so brashly."

Jayden sighs in relief, glad that she isn't mad at them. She seems mad at the situation instead! They bend down to bump their head against her shoulder apologetically. "That's okay, if Esmerelda and the others say he exists then he must. I'm just not one who's able to partake in that. Was I too annoying? I'm sorry for acting so pathetic..."

"No! This is all on me! I'd get that flustered too. It's never fun to get accused of anything you're innocent of." Alyce looks up at the taller (yet younger) horse. Jayden is not one bit annoying. They put up with her dragging them halfway across the territory with no questions asked. "I guess I was just scared of being considered crazy in the head about this. Absolem is real I promise. Maybe someday he'll show up for you too."

"You ARE a tad bit bonkers, but that's what makes you yourself! Bursting with imagination." Jayden grins. The appaloosa pony rolls her eyes in mock offense as a response.
"Him showing himself to you first just has to mean something. I'm sure everything will be figured out in time...maybe I could see him someday! That'd be neat. I've never seen a horse-skull up close before." Alyce had taken the liberty to describe Absolem on the way over and they must admit it sounded intriguing. They're slightly disappointed that things didn't work out as everything sinks in.

Alyce can sense how bummed Jayden is feeling. She ponders a way to fix that. "I know! Let's go watch the alligators help their hatchlings to the water. It's that time of year after all." It's adorable how tenderly the large reptile predators helped their young. Sometimes they even helped their eggs hatch so no baby is missed.

"Okay. As long as we don't get too close! I don't want to end up as gator food!" Jayden agrees quickly. Anything is better than staring at an empty field at this point. They give Alyce a head start since her shorter legs don't take her anywhere very fast. With a few easy strides they catch up and contentedly meander along with their friend.

Alyce casts one last remorseful glance back at snoozing Absolem, then turns back to the present task. "Don't worry Jay, according to you the alligators would find you too annoying to eat!"

Welp Alyce did her best XD Poor Jay was not prepared for any of this!
I also find the height difference between them amusing. Alyce is a Connemara pony (almost the size of a real horse but not quite) and Jay is biiiig leggy horse. Wholesome friends til the end.
Hopefully Ninja won't mind the same trip >.<
