Making bases by tracing over someone else's hard work is lazy, both for the base maker and the user (in most cases). You will stunt your artistic growth unless you're doing anatomy studies as well. You get recognition for art that is not your own, which in the end, if you ever stop making bases, means people WILL ditch you because you're not catering to their laziness anymore.
Not to mention copyright infringement once you're tracing anything more than just the body. And considering they've probably not gotten permission from the artist to make the traces, it just fuels the idea that "others do it, so why don't I" and "but everyone else does it!" or even "they didn't reply/but they're a big company, so that means I can!/I'm too small an artist to be found!" mentalities when it comes to permission seeking. No. No. NO. You are taught as a child to ask permission to play with someone's toy, this is no different. And if they say no, FIND SOMETHING ELSE. Doing it without permission is akin to taking someone's ball, playing with it, and them finding out you popped it. You deserve whatever wrath comes from it. :3
