I was a bit confused on the last panel - he called you a "faggot." "Faggot" is commonly used as a derogatory word for a homosexual person. Judging from the pic, I'm assuming you're a girl (correct me if I'm wrong.) You're a girl who made a penis in Minecraft. Why is a girl who makes a penis being called a "faggot"? Makes no sense to me. Had you build a giant vagina, it might make more sense. Wouldn't justify it, but it would make more sense. It just makes your dad sound like an ass. Maybe he should've said "pervert" or something?
(Not saying you're bad or anything, I like this artwork of yours. I am just stating that the end of it made little sense to me.)

Minecraft looks utterly pointless to me.
I'm 19.
A gamer.
And I wouldn't waste my money with it.
It's computer legos, nothing more.

You can make anything with lego too.
That kind just happens to be on your computer.
I don't see how it's getting so much hype for basically computerised legos.

Why would I want to play it?
It's computerised legos which has no value what so ever, you don't have any feeling of accomplishment when having played it and it is a waste of time.
And the only argument to the contrary is "You haven't played it so you won't understand."

Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
Utterly pointless? Could be. But then what are video games in general? Time sinks, the sense of achievement is based squarely on the individual. If you get off on Call of Battlefield 2, grinding levels to get more guns, sure. But the fact you've never actually played the game makes your "you don't have any feeling of accomplishment when having played it and it is a waste of time." pretty worthless.
Considering there is a demo for Minecraft out now, there isn't really an excuse to have tired it, besides sheer unwillingness to give it a shot.

Well tbh until it becomes something more I'm still not really classing it as a game until there is some sort of actual purpose.
It's a sandbox game with too much sandbox.
And a demo of trying lego....so it's a dumbed down version of the computer legos?
Right.
TBH I still do not see how this game is helping the games media at all, there's no story, no plot, no great push of technology, no push of graphics.
It's essentially an indie game which got a lot of hype and has gotten a massive audience based on something which will not help progress the games media one bit.
I'm not hating on it, i'm glad all the people are having fun with their legos I just do not see how it has gotten so great based on nothing driving games forward.

Very much part of the idea is that you make your own story and plotlines. The sheer range of customization available means you can make your very own games for other people to play, the possibilities literally are endless. You can create a work of architecture, make a RP map with a plotline and upload it for others to try, make an automated farm, an underwater metropolis, a working rollercoaster or just mess around riding pigs off cliffs.
You set your own milestones, such as to Reach Bedrock, Build a Portal and go to the Nether, Make a fully Automatic Zombie Farm. There is always something new to try.
Bad Graphics? Yet another thing that can be changed. Texture packs allow you to make the world look however you want, from Derp Styled Mobs, to Pokemon Textures, and anything else you can imagine.
You can even add you own mods to add extra Enemies to the game, or Goblin Camps to fight against, ive seen versions that are based of Call Of Duty, Portal, or whatever.
People have made covers of popular Beatle's songs using the Note Blocks, which play different notes depending on what they are placed on. Someone made a Megabuild of a Startrek Ship. Castles, 8-Bit Game Characters. A Waterslide. A Cannon that fires Pigs.
Its very difficult to dislike a game which can be anything you want it to, once youve given it a chance.

Eh I still can't see it as a game when it doesn't define itself as an open thing like that.
Your description of it was better than the developers one.
And i'd consider getting it IF I could pay for it, demos are no point as it's not the full game.
And it's still just blocks...if there were other shapes I wouldn't mind, but it's all horrible blocks.
I'm sure they have the funding to make more models and the coding to animate them.

Sprogog In reply to Mazder-1X5 [2011-04-27 15:21:13 +0000 UTC]
Ok then, think of it as... A tool of unlimited potential.
And as for blocks, part of it is dependant of Texture packs, although that doesnt change the basic shapes of the blocks, and instead more things like tools and the sun and such. But I personally think the blocky theme adds to the induviduality. But I do understand how your opinion is different.
And as for the demos, you can pay for the current full version, its something like £15? I have no idea, as my account is a family members which we share, and im not sure how much he paid for it.
Also, Notch (the game's creator) is adding plotlines in the future.
The nub and gist is, Minecraft can certainly fulfil your expectations, provided you are aware of the custom maps, texture packs, mods and all the trimmings which can be included to add a million more dimensions onto the basic game. Its definitly something to check out, even if you just watch a few youtube videos showcasing certain maps, "Survival Island", "Professor Grizwald" and "Gourd Adventure" are a few you might want to check out, aswell as the Portal and CoD Nazi Zombie versions and Mo'Creatures.
Once you have given it a try, and if you still dislike the game, then ill accept that fact, and you can happily say you dislike the game. But atleast give it a chance at first.

It might be that I am not a PC gamer at all as I have waaaay too much trouble with getting onto that machine to actually use the game so the thought of mods, different packs and stuff like that is basically lost on me.
Right now if I were to be suddenly able to get it I would be basically be playing on my own PC, if this piece of shit could even run the damn thing.
And to me the blocks do look horrible.
I mean I can see the appeal as it's partially nostalgia for the old 8-bit era but it's just not what I am looking for, if I want to go back there i'll go back to the old super Mario's.
And I wish I could give it a try, but I am one of those weird people that doesn't have a credit card and I don't have a Paypal account either as I do not trust any information regarding my money to be in a place on the internet.
