here are some tips when designing characters that I've picked up on in my own studies. hopefully these help and make character designing a little less daunting. Of course these sketches are extremely cartoony, but you could dial down and hone a more realistic style if you need. I could make a second sheet with a more realistic feel but still have good shape language. Honestly studying how animation studios like Disney or Pixar makes characters and concepts really helps and I highly suggest doing your own studies on those. My links!
