Description Lena woke suddenly in the night. Groggily, she peeked her head over the covers and noticed that the other half of her bed was empty. She wrapped the quilt around her and got out of bed, heading for the living room. She should have been prepared for this, she'd known it was coming. And yet, she couldn't help but hope that it wasn't happening again.

As she made it to the living room she saw the front door close and knew that he was leaving. Lena drew the blanket tighter around her and knelt on the couch to look out the window. She pressed her forehead against the living room window and watched as he got into his truck. Her breath fogged on the glass as she whispered: "please."

For a long while the truck sat idle in the drive. Snow fell steadily outside, collecting in cool, soft pillows on the ground. "Please," she whispered again, wondering if her silent calls would be enough to stop him. Wondering if her love is strong enough to make him stay. She's answered by the tail lights shining through the window pane.
