Queen made absolutely legendary music. Even though my fave goes right to Nirvana, Queen's music was LEGENDARY.
Under Pressure was one of the few songs that made me cry, not gonna lie here.

I am not a music snob, but if there are two bands that I will defend to the DEATH, it's Alice in Chains and QUEEN. I will seriously choke someone if they DARE disrespect Freddie Mercury and all his hard work (along with all the other band members of course, but God, he was a friggin angel).

And indeed, they were all absolutely fantastic artists. Mercury just managed to shine more brightly, in no small part because he died young.

Died young and tragically, since he died one day after he announced having been AIDS.
He could have raised more HIV/AIDS awareness than other celebs who died of Aids cause of his personality/popularity.
Mercury was the perfect entertainer on stage plus he had an extraordinary vocal range - currently I only see this entertainer quality in Robbie Williams (though his voice isn't as good as FMs)

It was a massive tragedy, which made me appreciate all the more how bravely he kept going, making his music even when he knew he was doomed.
Yeah, he could, but he probably wasn't comfortable coming out officially.
His on stage persona was extraordinairy. I remember a clip from live aid or something, where he more or less plays the audience like a fiddle, and ends with a "Fuck you!", and they all love him for it.

But it was an open secret that FM was bi-sexual. Though not many knew that he was in a steady relationship in his last years. Aids was a big tabu (taboo) at that time. I think it was Rock Hudson's death that really alerted the public and helped raising awareness, as his death and his coming out thru this, was quite a shock for the audience. Or most of the audience. Elizabeth Taylor helped a lot in raising Aids awareness.
He always played the audience... can't remembera time when he doesn't. He did it right from the start. The fans loved him and he loved them. Part of the magic!
