I like it, but I wouldn't think you'd need the post-it's to let across the message. I really like the position of the body, I think that's what expresses the feelings the most.
I guess I am a true believer of the saying 'a photograph is worth a million words' (translated portuguese saying).

I disagree. Because the words are an important part of the picture, they define the "they" in the title, and make it a picture specifically about the names females get called in our society and the effect it has on their self esteem. Most can defend themselves mentally, especially as they get older but everyone has a breaking point where it "gets to you".
Without the postits it would be a more general picture about a vague "they" getting to you. And not nearly as poignant or pointed a message.

Of course I understand where you are coming from saying that, but I also think it's the photographers job to make the picture look as much as what ever their point was, without any pointers. A picture you can read without any help is the perfect picture in my opinion.
I also think it is a plus if it can be more general. It's kind of like a poem, people read it and find a different meaning then anybody else, and with that, identifying themselves with it.
Once again, I'm not saying I don't like the picture or that it is a bad picture because of what I said. In fact if it was i wouldn't even bother to look at it and comment it. This is just my honest opinion and I hope no one gets personaly offended by it.

I think maybe it would better if at least some of the wourds were out of phocus. when people are facing horrasment like that my guess is that the wouds do not remain individual insults, but rather blur together, and just become a sort of negative presence (I can't think of a better way to say it) I found all the wourds distracting because like just about everybody I have been called names, but not those particular ones...I found that having the words in phocus made me less able to identify

Wait, I just read your reply to Luna, nevermind me You prefer the more open-ended feel.

I see your point there, but would it convey the same message without the post-stick notes do you think?

I like the fact that with most portrait-like pictures you can get about a 1000 meanings, it's part of what makes it beautiful. The fact that the phographer thought that it was about the girl being self-concious or bullied should not influence my view on said picture.
I just like the freedoom fact on a less obvious picture, if you know what I mean.
I like the picture non-the-less!

I think the post-it's make it more clear of the photographers intentions in the way their work is understood and it makes it a more interesting picture as well as a lot more bold and stunning.

Aye, that's what I thought too. I was just curious to know if you thought it would mean the same if the post-its where there or not. ^^
