Description

(EDIT: The images depicted for this are quite outdated, but the process of how I draw is still similar!)

This is a demonstration of how I draw my characters, whether on GIMP or paper, currently. I haven't updated my DeviantArt in a while, so my previous artwork may not use this method.

(Yes, Floee the Fox, my Sonic OC, got a redesign. I'll post her new bio/ref later.)

Draft

This usually applies to a single piece of artwork meant for showing off the best I can do. When I'm not able to layout the pose, action, and emotions in my head, I draw simple stick figures so I can actively refer what I need to show in my artwork. They are simply rough drafts and only need to lay out what I need, so they do not perfectly represent the final artwork and some parts may be changed.

Guidelines

Guidelines are very very useful for sketching the body with fewer inaccuracies, allowing me to tackle the most complicated poses while keeping the anatomy and proportions mostly right! I use basic shapes, lines, and curves to layout body parts and where they'll be drawn. I use circles for head, torso, and heads, lines for limbs, tails, and labeling where the muzzle and eyes go on the face, and right triangles for feet. I may add more shapes as my drawing skills improve.

Lines

Now for the real deal! This one should be obvious. I may draw basic parts, add in advanced parts, and erase the basic part lines inside the advanced part lines later. I use stiff lines, because pen pressure is too much for me and my art still look nice with stiff lines.

Removing Guidelines

After drawing the lines in, I remove the guidelines, leaving the raw final art without any coloring! I did add cyan straight lines to highlight the laser beam Floee is shooting.

Thanks for taking an insight of how I draw my characters in my artwork! I may share how I color digitally in the future.
