since i finished reading the main dune books (the ones frank herbert wrote) i decided to have a go with iain banks' 'culture' series. it's a LOT of fun. i'm reading 'excession' justnow. there isn't very much canon art at all for the series so i was trying to figure out what i think some things look like. skaffen-amtiskaw looks like a white suitcase is about all we're given. i think the idiran look this sort of shape and they'd have plating somewhere between insect shell and rhino skin. the affront look like giant portuguese man-o-war from the description. and i think the xenophobe is actually meant to be quite cute but on first impression it's pretty off-putting
