Here is a promising way to help reduce the emissions from burning fossil fuels to heat and cool our homes and businesses.

Currently we run gas, sewer and water lines beneath our city streets. The next time we dig up the streets, let’s install geothermal for entire neighborhoods! (Bore holes deep beneath the street … not in our lawns.) It also has the advantage of equity – treating everyone in our community equally. Utilities and/or other companies, working with local government, install the infrastructure. Homes could connect just as they would to a natural gas or sewer line. While we are at it, perhaps we could bury the electric power lines underground as well.
