Backstory you want ? Backstory you'll haveHistory of Lionastur:
In 1301, Sanche of Castille decides to wait before reconquering the Kingdom of Leon. 1301 was the last year he could have done that, since after that, the military in Portugal and the Leonese region went like doubling while Castille was struggling with the arabs in the south. So the Kingdom of Leon survives and they have an existence pretty similar to Portugal, which who they have good relations until today. They join the 100 years war on the British side however, and, as Portugal OTL and TTL, will loose gradually influence in the Iberian peninsula, and will start to colonize with some comptoirs in Africa and Islands in Macaronesia. They'll move their capital to Saint James of Compostella at some point, because it's a far more growing city than Leon, who grows too quickly, but non as Saint-James. Siding with Portugal during the Fernandines War, they'll beat Castille's ass up quicker than OTL, and Portugal and Leon will have an equal influence as Castille over the Iberian peninsula. Castille will try to invade both of Portugal and Leon in 1385, but will fail, and will loose some bordering cities and counties to them. In the beginning of the 15th century, Leon and Portugal will really start to create comptoirs in India and Africa, and this, until the end of the century, when, with the war of Castilian succession, where Castile and Aragon still manage to get Isabelle on the Castilian throne, but at a cost of less prestige for Castile, lowering them again to the exact same level of influence than Portugal and Leon. The discovery of the Americas by a Genoese merchant in 1492, and the ultimate Castilian-Aragonese coup to the Emirate of Granada (they won't be able however to take the city of Almeria, due to not really realistic reasons, but still a strange thing that could have happened, leaving Almeria as the last Arab holding in Iberia, but quickly christianizing), will allow the three Atlantic Iberian kingdoms, aka Portugal, Leon and Castile to start colonizing the new world, with Castile invading the Aztec and Mayas realms with Cortés, Pizarro landing in today Guyana Plateau, (born under the Leonese realm) and Cabral landing in today Brazil. Also Portugal and Leon shared the same part of the world at the treaty of Tordesillas, bc it would have been too complicated for that time to cut the world in three. The colonization is a bit different then, Spain, once united, will fail to unify the rest of Iberia and their Empires around the 1580's and 1590's, during the war of Portuguese succession, when Portuguese and Leonese nobles will support a Leonese ruler, while Spain will support a Spanish one. The Leonese will win the war, and then, with the Leonese war of succession, happens the same thing, but with Portuguese winning the war. This major connection between their two royal dynasties will lead to their union later. The Dutch will try to take Leonese Guyanes and Portuguese Maranhao, and will hold them for a bit, before getting expelled. BTW the Spaniards got approximatively the same Empire, except they got Southern Brazil, and roughly some bigger New Granada was Leonese. The Amazon rainforest was claimed by the three colonial puissances. At some point around the 1650's, Portugal and Leon united, as did before Castile and Aragon, becoming the Union of Lusitania, and later just Lusitania. Then, during the war of Spanish succession, as they were supporting the Habsburg Spain, they lost some colonial holdings, and had to abandon their claims over the Amazon rainforest. They then follow roughly the same history as post 7 years war Portugal. The Lusitanian union will last until the Napoleonic wars, the two kingdoms being split by Napoleon and remained split after Vienna in 1815. Then their colony of Guayana (English adaptation of the Leonese name for Guyana), which correspond to roughly Colombia, Venezuela and the Guyana Plateau gets his independence via a war. Leon will support the Carlist during the first Carlist war. Leon will be granted colonies in Africa at the Berlin conference, mainly they'll get the Canaries Islands, the Casamance river mouth, that they'll name Leonese Guinea, they'll also get lands like OTL French Gabon and Congo, and they'll get OTL Southern Mozambique, Portugal holding the Northern half. They'll also have some remaining holdings in India (ports and cities) and will hold Soheu, (OTL Zhuhai), a similar thing to Macau OTL, and East Flores (west being Dutch). In 1912, Leon became a Republic, like Portugal, and side with them, Germany having declared war upon them, during WW1. In 1928, an nobiliary dictatorship is put in place, and rivalry began with the military dictatorship of Portugal, until 1933, when Portugal felt under a fascist dictatorship, followed by Leon in 1935, who felt to the hands of Francisco Franco. Both supported the Phalange during the Spanish civil war. Both dictatures ended up in 1970 for Portugal and 1974 for Leon. (Spain was ruled by Manuel Hedilla until 1988, when he was assassinated, and the monarchy restored).
History of Almyria:
In 1513, because of the immense debt due to the Crowns of Castile and Aragon, the Kingdom of Grenade felt, splitting in three taifas: Malaga, Granada and Almyria. While Malaga and Granada fought to know who will be the one to reform the Kingdom, Almyria rushed to fortify their city and reinforce their economy, in order to protect themselves for a Spanish or Grenadine attack.
In 1527, during another one of the Malaga-Grenada war, the Castille invaded quickly both of them, while the Aragon took almost all of Almyria, only the city proper remaining. Now, in 14 years, Almyria has made her city untouchable, ready for a siege of 10 years. The Spanish kingdoms were ready as well, and they started a siege. A 9 years long siege. They quitted at the ninth year of siege, allowing Almyria to survive.
Then, Almyria started commerce with Venise, and quickly became fully dependent of this trade. Almyria became a full part of the Venise Republic in 1561. This Venetian supremacy over Almyria reinforced their non-appartenance to neither Castile or Aragon, and started the Christianization of the region. Venice released the now Maritime Republic of Almyria in 1756, adopting a system similar to the Venetian one. Almyria quickly chose side in the Sevens years war, siding with Britain, they’ll become Britain little protected one after this war, and had a pretty peaceful life until 1812, when the little Republic was taken by a fleeing Joseph Bonaparte, and was executed in 1814. Almyria gained lands out of Spain, for them siding at first with France during the wars, at Vienna , in 1815. Their existence remaining as peaceful as before, until 1848, when the doge system is abolished by a revolution, and that a participative democracy was set in place. This system lasted until 1867, when a new Republican system was formed, with people voting for a parliament who voted for the laws, instead of directly voting for the laws. This new system is again abolished in 1908, and was replaced by a full republican system, with a president elected each 6 years. Almyria was occupied by Spanish forces from 1938 to 1945, by the Phalangist and pro-Axis government.
