+violent cough+ JUST so you know, I've been deliberating for the whooole afternoon whether or not to scrap this right after I finished it. And then I went and put in just a little too much effort in making this. I couldn't just chuck it with all my other crap. So into the gallery it goes.
Also, I'd like to say that I don't Smoke, Drink, Drive, Have a Credit Card or Do Drugs. So I think I'm entitled to at least ONE weird obsession/fetish in my life. Please suppress urge to vomit until you reach the nearest bathroom.

All right, I had to fave this just for the expression on Prowl's face. Anyone who thinks he doesn't have an emotional processor hasn't known him for very long. He DOES schedule himself an off-shift every now and then, from what I've heard. That he might spend it surprising female furries from behind...well, that's a bit more of a stretch for me. One might think Panda there heard Prowl-love coming, given as he's built of assorted metals and powered by hydraulics and the like. I could see Mirage perhaps pulling off such a trick, given that he's the spy and therefore has all the silencing technology...
....I'm rambling even more than usual. I'll stop now. Great face on Prowl.

Well, since you invited it--I personally think that Mirage can sneak around (and potentially startle naked furries) because he's built for it and is very particular about taking care of himself.
[Begin Ramble]
Canon says that Mirage was a rich young elitist, before getting involved in the war. That provides me with the reason why Mirage is the only bot with that invisibility trick. The short version is--it's a darned expensive mod.
The longer version is that Mirage was originally built by someone with the cash to lavish on things like hand-ground hydraulic systems and joint seals, polished until they're so smooth they almost don't need to be oiled to be functional. Mirage is also lighter in weight than most bots--I put him at around three tons, tops, in bot mode. So floors don't creak as much under him as they would under say, seven tons of Ratchet or nine tons of Prime.
On top of that, I think that on Cybertron, silence in motion is part of elite manners and "good breeding", for lack of a better term. After all, it takes energy to create noise, and on Cybertron, energy efficiency is almost a religion. (I have an explanation for why I think that, too, but that's another ramble.) So Mirage probably learned how to glide about with a minimum of racket very early in life, if his silent gait wasn't programmed into him in the first place.
Being light and quiet on his feet makes Mirage a good candidate for an invisibility mod, but what clinched the matter, I think, is another facet of Mirage's expensive design. Again referring to canon as I know it, Mirage can only stay invisible for short periods of time. That has to do with the nature of becoming invisible--you have to manipulate light in real time. Mirage's invisibility unit has to be able to calculate where every inch of his body is at least several times a second, find out what the light around him is doing, and effectively cancel out the effects of his solid body by emitting light in the appropriate wavelengths to mask his presence. It's a massive processing job, especially if Mirage is moving quickly and/or through rapidly changing light conditions. Only a very high-speed and high-capacity (and thus pricey) processing and buffering rig could keep up with the demands at all, to say nothing of doing it for any useful length of time. Someone like Prowl might be able to support such a mod, but given his split processing system, it would be a lot more complex to implement than it was in Mirage. Mirage could probably stretch his invisible time by remaining still and under similar light as much as possible, but sooner or later, he's going to have to power down the invisibility unit and let his buffers clear.
Processing demands aside, it can't be cheap to coat a bot in light-analyzing tiles. Wiring them in--I'd bet they're hooked up to Mirage's skin sensory net, which gives Mirage the unique ability to feel color.
The final piece of the package that is Mirage's invisibility is his fastidious self-maintenance. Other bots might see it as a sign of vanity, but in Mirage's case it's a matter of life and death. One squeak from a knee could give him away, invisible or not. One malfunctioning skin tile, and he's under interrogation by Soundwave. So frequent cleaning and oiling aren't just self-indulgence, in Mirage's case.

I've noticed it always seems to be girls who are into that kinda thing. I rarely, if ever see guys drooling over Arcee or Fei Yin or Noble Gundam, or Qubeley. Wonder why that is? I know lots o' fellas wanna poke Maria, but she's not really the same type of robot.
Prowl looks funny here. It's very out of character for a stiff (hmm...mabye not the best choice of words in this case...) like him, but that's what makes it so amusing.

Fei Yin is the girly mecha from Virtual On, Noble Gundam is the female Gundam from Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Qubeley is an MS from Z & ZZ Gundam that's generally regarded as being "female" due to its curvy design & feminine looking white & pink paintjob, although it's kinda inhuman looking so it's hard to tell & Maria is that robot chick from Metropolis (Fritz Lang, not Osamu Tezuka).
Anyway, I've just noticed over the past few years how there seems to be small subgroup in the mecha anime fandom who have a fetish for these machines...
It's very curious.
I suppose I can understand it, though. Most women are attracted to beauty & strength. Few things are as strong & beautiful as a shiny new mecha.
