Clover is the ruler of a small set of islands off the coast of the Metro Kingdom, The Herbal Isles. Her kingdom and the Mushroom Kingdom were in an unsteady peace due to past relations between the two former kings. During her rule, her brother dethroned her and sent her into exile after allying with the Koopa Kingdom to help them take over the Mushroom Kingdom.
This would pass, as a hero came to her kingdom; an unexpected and unplanned visitor from the Mushroom Kingdom, Giovanni. Giovanni helped Clover reclaim her kingdom. Afterward, Clover became to grow very fond of Giovanni, began to form a relationship with the janitor, and joined him as his partner in future sporting events.
