Well, maybe technically sort of a tongue-in-cheek horror than horror itself.Since I now have film privileges on DA I thought I'd upload a real version of this instead of my crappy youtube version... I also thought today would be a great day to do it due to Halloween and all.
This is my first year animated short for the Open Show at Calarts. My film actually made it into the Producer's show so I was happy for that.
There's a lot wrong with it, but it was a lot of fun. My first time really extensively animating and I was just sort of thrown into it without really much of an idea as to what I was doing.
first year restrictions were:
no color (got the spot of color I have okayed)
no voice acting
1 minute 30 seconds
we wer given roughly 3 / 4 months to complete this assignment.
Animated by hand, traditionally, using punched paper and living off of a diet of cuties and poptarts.
The look was loosely inspired by Gorey's works as he is always going to be one of my favorite artists.
Currently working on my second year film. This time featuring a cute little girl named Maddy instead of a big fat man with whale teeth.
Music and sound by Jarred McAdams (my brother!).

You seem like a pretty good animator. I'm trying to get a pilot for animated series done, I already have the animatic for it done. Do you have an idea of how much a minute would cost? Just in general?

that is my cat he thinks i am the maid .. only there to put food in bowl and clean litter boxes and give her water.. other wise she bites and hates me

Amazing work! Your animation style is very capturing! And the backgrounds are equally stunning. You say there's a lot wrong with it, but I can't see any errors.

Using a shattered clock as a sign/symbol for death.
And a black cat to act as the grim reaper.
The expression of fear on the old man's face was well drawn.
And the ending caught my attention, he fell down the stairs, died and awaken only to realize that he's dead.
This animation is very well done.

It kind of makes it seem like the cat is the grim reaper. I really love how at the end,the cat is purring and rubbing up against him.

It reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode where a guy was obsessing with keeping an old clock ticking, because as soon as it stopped, so did his heart.
This is one of those creepy yet intriguing concepts that I'm attracted to, well done! I swear I'm turning into a Tim Burton

This (and another animation I can't seem to find anymore.. gyah) has been probably the most influential piece of art I've ever found on dA since I joined six years ago. It inspired me to take up an animation-related course in university. So amazing!!

This is the most amazing thing ever! This need to be a movie. Like a full length movie. It looks like a Tim Burton work. It's beautiful. Gah! I love that cat!

What I noticed during the short, eerie film is that the old man who's terrified of death and that cat foreshadows the old man's fate. Then when the old man got frightened, he tumbled down on the stairs, meeting his doom=death. Therefore, he meets himself dead after hitting himself from the stairs as a ghost which explains the priest and his siblings or other relatives next to him. You, madam, really captured everything. The mood and the effects literally can't let go of me from the film you made.
