Description
So this is me + Falkzii 's activity check!! we thought this would be a cool way to get both of them done, so we collab'd a piece along with a roleplay bit! i sketched, falk lined, i colored, they shaded, and i added some finishing touch-ups !! we're both really proud of how it came out, and i think our styles worked really nicely together in this! Here's the roleplay to go along with it, at exactly 2,500 words!
It was still dark when Creekpaw forced himself awake, only days after the third and final fox had been slain. He stepped softly and carefully around his denmates, making his way towards the exit. He made his way to the medicine cat's den, where his friend was almost completely healed. "Pst! Silverpaw!" he called softly into the den as he padded inside, hoping his friend would be the only one to wake.
Silverpaw had drifted off into a rather light sleep. He'd been sleeping so much lately that a deep sleep no longer felt as good as it had before. Dragged out of his dreams, Silverpaw raised his head, hearing a familiar voice call his name. His eyes droopy, he widened them slowly. "Creekpaw?" He whispered quietly, standing slowly he gave a small stretch and padded towards the entrance of the den. Upon spotting his fellow apprentice, his eyes softened and he gave the other tom a smile. "What's up?" He asked quietly.
The knot of excitement and anxiety in Creekpaw's belly soothed itself when he caught sight of Silverpaw's deep amber eyes. He stepped backwards out of the medicine cat's den and gestured for the other apprentice to follow. Once they were both outside, Creekpaw sat down and faced his friend. "Hey! Since the last fox has been gone for a few days, I thought we could sneak out and explore a bit since it's safe again," he paused, before explaining further. "You've been stuck in that dusty old den for too long, I thought you could use a day out."
The grey apprentice followed his friend out into the open. He listened carefully to the other apprentice, his tails slowly lifting in excitement. He lash them gently behind himself before giving off an even larger smile, "you can say that again," he murmured happily. He couldn't be more enchanted by the fact that Creekpaw had thought about him. "Yea, lets go then," he said, keeping his eyes fixed on the other cat, "before anyone catches us!" He said again. These words he took rather seriously. Being caught was the last thing he wanted to have happen, but his paws had been inching the past few days, so he felt it was worth the risk.
The smile on Creekpaw's face grew as he listened to Silverpaw's response, pleased that he thought it would be a good idea too. He stood, and started towards the dirtplace. "Well, what are we waiting for then? Let's go," he purred quietly, leading the way out of camp since Silverpaw hadn't really had the chance to explore it much before he was trapped in the medicine cat's den.
"Ok," Silverpaw quickly followed Creekpaw, keeping as close to his fellow apprentice as he could... without being weird about it. The grey tom padded in silence at the beginning. Not walking to be heard by any other clan members. Excitement prickled at his spine, he'd barely even been made an apprentice when he'd gotten injured. His own clans territory was practically still new land for him, he couldn't wait to explore it together with Creekpaw.
Once they'd gotten far enough from the camp to not be heard, Creekpaw turned to the other apprentice with a sparkle in his eyes. "I've missed spending more than a few minutes with you at a time," he admitted softly. "Training hasn't felt right without you, I hope you can come back soon." It was still dark outside, but Creekpaw could tell they were approaching the river by the soft swishing sound in the distance.
Hearing the words of his fellow apprentice made Silverpaw's heart flutter. "Mm, I've missed out on so much, and it hasn't even been that long," he muttered softly, it didn't come off as a complaint, and more of just a general statement. He returned Creekpaw's gaze with one of his own, raising a brow coyly, "I could come back to training in a couple moons and still take you on!" He lied confidently. He knew that the other apprentice would have he upper hand, but he wouldn't let that stop him from bragging to him.
Creekpaw rolled his eyes in good nature, appreciating that Silverpaw hadn't lost all of his confidence while being stuck in the medicine den all day. "Honestly, I'm sure you could. You're gonna be the best warrior here, so you should have no problem taking me down," he nodded to himself, a grin spreading onto his face. He recalled the story Silverpaw had told him about his origins back when they were kits.
Silverpaw flicked his tails in amusement at the other apprentices words. He admired that Creekpaw had such confidence in him, he rarely ever got such praise. It was a reason that Silverpaw had even given the other apprentice a chance, the other being his obligatory search to find friends within the clan once he realized they weren't a threat. His face flushed faintly, so he turned his head away, focusing on the path before them. The river appeared quickly as the apprentices arrived at the open space. "Thirsty?" He asked quietly, looking towards the swiftly running current.
Before Creekpaw could answer, a slight breeze sent a few feathers straight into his face. He was taken aback, as he hadn't scented a kill nearby, but they were by the river. "What the," he paused, scanning the other side of the bank for the source of the feathers. "Hey these feathers are pretty tiny but they look like they came from a blue jay," he turned to Silverpaw. "I think I see where they came from across the river, we could find bigger ones to keep," he smiled excitedly.
Silverpaw let out a stifled laugh when he turned to see Creekpaw with a face full of feathers. Perking his ears he followed the other apprentices eyes across the river as he spoke, "sure!" He said enthusiastically. Silverpaw wasn't going to turn down a chance to get into the water, no matter how short his time swimming would be. He wasn't a fan of birds as a good source, but he had to admit they were beautiful. It almost made him jealous when he watched them fly through the air. While feathers weren't necessarily shiny, they were very pretty, and could fit in well with his collection.
"Come on, this way. Minnowbrook showed me the most shallow spot so we can cross without getting swept away," he said cheerfully as he led the other apprentice to the shallow patch. "You can go first, so I can catch you just in case you slip. Not that you will of course," he offered, not sure how much practice Silverpaw had with the slippery rocks at the bottom.
Following Creekpaw, Silverpaw frowned slightly at the others comment about him slipping. After a moment he realized that the blue tom was right. Even with his love of the water, that usually led to him feeling fairly confident about swimming, he didn't want to take any risks considering he hadn't gone in quite a while. Especially without any warriors nearby. "Yea, I think I'll take you up on that offer," the apprentice said, nodding faintly. He began slowly wading out onto the shallow path that lay before him. He could barely see where he was stepping, even with the sky slowly lightening above them. Soon he was across to the other side, no problem. Of course it was no problem. Silverpaw turned around to face Creekpaw, watching him, his brilliant amber eyes glowing with pride, as he waiting for the other to follow him across.
Creekpaw followed Silverpaw out of the water, smiling as he caught his friend's gaze. "I told you you wouldn't, I mean you had no trouble at all! I feel like it should've been you ready to catch me in all honesty," he nodded before turning his head back towards where he suspected the feathers to be. "Now, back to our task," he said distractedly, moving towards the pile. Ad he grew closer, he began to smile. His guess had been right, there were a bunch of pretty blue jay feathers right ahead for the taking. "Wonder who was up hunting so early, though" he mumbled to himself but loud enough for Silverpaw to hear as well.
"Heh, of course.." silverpaw said quietly. It seemed that Creekpaw had even more confidence in him, than he had for himself. Creekpaw was really a cat to be admired. Shaking his head slightly he nodded, "right,". As the two apprentices approached the pile of bird plumage, Silverpaw admired the feathers in awe. Hearing Creekpaws question Silverpaw began to wonder the same question. Whoever it was had been hunting rather early. The apprentice scented the air and froze, picking up a scent. It was very faint, like they hadn't been here for hours, but it was still enough to cause his haunches to prickle upwards nervously. Spotting a clump of sleek, black fur stuck in a nearby bush, and faint paw prints in the mud a short distance away, was enough to convince the apprentice. As his heart beat sky rocketed, he hesitantly turned his head towards the blue apprentice, who was picking through the feathers. The smell was fox. "Creekpaw, we should hurry and get back to camp," he said, wondering if the other cat had picked up on anything. He didn't want to mention his thoughts, not wanting to startle Creekpaw when they were having such a great time.
Creekpaw had picked two rather large, blue feathers out from the bunch when Silverpaw turned to him. He saw the other apprentice's fur was bristled a bit, and immediately opened his jaws to taste the air. He too picked up on what Silverpaw had scented, and his eyes widened in fear. "But... They just killed the last fox...?" he said in fear and confusion. Looking around, he spotted the same chunk of sleek black fur and huge pawprints in the mud. "Those are... a LOT bigger than the others' prints," he said in a shaky voice. "Let's get these feathers and get out of here."
Realizing that Creekpaw was too smart to not notice. Silverpaw returned to the other apprentices side. The paw prints were massive, at this point they barely even looked like they came from a fox. Silverpaw would've thought they'd came from another animal, if it wasn't for all the evidence that said otherwise. Creekpaw was still determined to collect the feathers, which was good, it made Silverpaw feel a little less on edge. "Yea," the grey apprentices murmured in agreement. Shifting his eyes back onto the bird remains. He quickly shuffled through the small mass and collected a couple of the larger and less mangled feathers.
Creekpaw gathered the feathers he'd found and quickly started to head back towards the river, making sure his friend was following before continuing. "Sorry for bringing you out here, I didn't know there was still a fox," he said guiltily. "At least we got some sweet feathers though." Creekpaw hoped the chat would keep their minds off of the possible threat. It was getting lighter and lighter, though, so the black fox would be easier to spot if it decided to attack. "They'll look nice on you. They'll be like a symbol of our friendship, kind of!"
Silverpaw quickly followed behind Creekpaw as soon as he started moving. Glancing behind the two every once in a while to be sure the fox was nowhere in sight. "No it's ok," the grey tom said, slightly muffled by the feathers "you didn't know," he added. As the two continued to pad onward Silverpaw flushed slightly, "I think they'll look good on you too, they match your pretty blue fur!" The apprentice said. After a moment of silence, Silverpaw couldn't shake his thoughts. He paused and flicked his ears slightly, shifting his eyes downwards, "do you think the clan knows...?" He asked cautiously as they crossed back across the river.
"I'm not sure, I've heard the warriors whispering about stuff but I thought it'd be boring like new kits or something," the blue apprentice admitted, mumbling around the feathers. "They probably don't know for sure like we do, but they probably think so." Creekpaw walked in silence for a few moments, dreading that they'd have to report what they'd seen. The clan would certainly question why they'd been out alone so early, especially while Silverpaw was supposed to be in the medicine den healing.
Listening to the blue apprentice, Silverpaw turned his eyes towards the ground. As they approached the camp his pace slowed. He felt his gut wrench when he realized that they'd have to tell the rest of the clan that they'd been out of camp without permission. When he looked over at Creekpaw, he realized that his expression displayed the same fear. "Don't worry, I can take the blame. I'm the one who needed an outing..." the apprentice said with a calming tone, not letting his worry seep out through his throat.
Alarm flashed in Creekpaw's eyes as he glanced at the other apprentice. "Absolutely not, I'm not letting them keep you in camp any longer than they were already going to, I'm the one who woke you up anyway," he refused, as there was no way he'd let Silverpaw take the fall for his silly plan. "Besides, they might take it easy on me because we brought back valuable information," he mewed in a hopeful tone, trying to convince himself as well as his friend.
Silverpaw kept his eyes on his fellow apprentice as he spoke and pouted slightly. "Mmm," he hummed. He wasn't going to argue with Creekpaw, as he had a point. He didn't want to get in trouble, or worse, get kicked out of the clan for not obeying the rules. "We can... we can talk to our mentors together?" He said, while it was phrased as a offer, it was more of a statement, something that Silverpaw was going to do. He smiled faintly, shifting his eyes forwards when he saw that they would be approaching the camp entrance soon.
Seeing that together was the best Creekpaw would get from Silverpaw, he reluctantly nodded and offered a grateful smile to the grey apprentice. "Together sounds nice," he replied and pressed closer to his friend as they approached the camp. For comfort, of course. He told himself it was just for comfort in his head a few more times, but his flushed face hinted at another reasoning.
Silverpaw smiled and felt his face get slightly warmer when his fellow apprentice pressed his pelt against his own. He pinned back his ears as they grew towards the camp entrance, wrapping his twin tails around Creekpaw gently, entangling them with the blue toms. "Together," he nodded happily, soft purring becoming audible. The two apprentices entered the camp slowly, taking their time in this peaceful moment. Little did they know what would come that night.
