Description
I ran a series of three workshops for local people to come and make candle lanterns. The lanterns were incorporated into the event as the children parade their lanterns onto the field to begin the show and also take part during the performance. The lanterns are made by joining together withies (thin willow boughs stripped of their bark) using masking tape. These are then covered with high-saturation tissue paper soaked in latex glue. As the glue dries it turns the tissue translucent and stretches it tight and pretty waterproof across the frame.
After the workshops were over and the glue had dried I turned the lanterns into a school of squid to match our nautical theme.
