Description (hof-JEEN)
On another Earth, one culture that had acquired biotechnology from another world managed to conquer and span the entirety of Earth, forming a true one-world government and relabeling all humans under Hafjin, meaning "They who adapt". With the end of war and international conflict, Hafjin society focused on advancing their alien technology to put an end to scarcity and strife at the local level. But the Astral Awakening would put an end to their goals. They found that their special biotechnology, known as Tiqna, reacted to the shifting of the Astral Plane, and they were able to use it to travel freely into the other realm. While they fought valiantly against the Great Beasts, a spontaneous cosmic catastrophe was drawing Earth towards the sun. Millions of Hafjin took their tech and fled into the Astral Plane to escape extinction, arriving on a new Earth along with the other neo-races. The firepower of their unique advanced technology proved vital to taking the planet back from the Great Beasts and securing a new peace.

While Hafjin can come in different skin tones and facial structures like humans and Vektrans, there is a definite homogeneity across them likely thanks to every Hafjin having had their technology Tiqna integrated into their very physiology. Tiqna is so pervasive that it can identify and imprint upon fertilized eggs, ensuring that Hafjin babies are also integrated. For other neo-races this can be unsettling, but to Hafjin it is as natural as any other genetic markers. Tiqna provides three major boons to a Hafjin: The first is a boosted immune system, which happens to have the side effect of making Hafjin have particularly warm bodies, rivaling that of some larger Faunin. The second and more fantastical is a particular durability to fire and heat: Hafjin can survive in open flame without burning for far longer than any other organic lifeform, and for this reason above all they make great candidates for rescue missions during fire-ridden disasters, as well as excellent fire fighters. Third and most useful is that it allows them to interact with Tiqna technology. Indeed, this powerful technology only works in the hands of a Hafjin, being inoperable otherwise. It's when a Hafjin is using Tiqna that the blue lines of light appear across their bodies into artistically intricate formations that resonate with the Tiqna they hold. Tiqna bioships can only be piloted by Hafjin, as well as powerful Tiqna weapons and personal computer systems. Hafjin are very attentive to their personal Tiqna, avoiding letting them come to harm and speaking to them like they are a pet or family member. It is derisively joked by other neo-races that if a Hafjin had to choose between their Tiqna and another person to save from a collapsing building, they would choose their Tiqna.

There is however a morbid reason for this veneration: Tiqna is hard to come by in this new world, much of it having gotten lost during the travel through the Astral Plane. With the Hafjin Junta hoarding as much as they can that washes up on the shores of reality, the only other way to create more Tiqna is through the use of Hafjin bodies (willingly given). Tiqna bioships are actually made from the bodies of whole groups of Hafjin who gave their lives for the cause. This means that every piece of Tiqna a Hafjin has was once another Hafjin, and very often it was a relative. It is common for grandparents to ensure that upon death their bodies are forged into Tiqna to give to their children or grandchildren. Most Hafjin voluntarily donate their bodies to Tiqna production.

Hafjin are proactive go-getters, and their ambition can be intimidating to other neo-races. Hafjin civilians believe a healthy family is a large family, and commonly prefer a large number of children. They can mate with humans, though the offspring always end up as more Hafjin thanks to Tiqna, leading to anti-Hafjin sentiments from humans who believe they are trying to breed out the human race and increase their own numbers for power. Hafjin tend to see humans as naive and not ambitious enough with their goals and are ambivalent towards the isolated Istravians, while looking at Faunin and Natan with some distrust. They often find themselves forging rivalries with Vektrans, whose intellect and efficiency they both resent and respect.

With their affinity with heat, Hafjin Astral Drifters are drawn to fire-based abilities and excel in long-range Astral Drifts where Aura is released from the body.
