i've been thinking a lot about my old dog lulu :')

OKAY THIS IS A LONG ONE LOL
we adopted lulu back when i was around 4. she was one of many stray dogs in mexico, and she was rescued after watching her mom get hit by a car shortly after she was born. we travelled to mexico and saw her at the adoption center. my parents didn't really want a dog at the start, but they saw how much me and my sister loved her, so they decided to adopt her. we brought her home and cared for her very well - we live next to a street, it's not that busy but you can hear the cars passing very well from inside the house. lulu was scared of cars since her mother had been killed by one, so every time she heard anything loud coming from outside she would get scared and hide in a corner we played with her and tried to socialize her, but she was still very scared. on walks she would get to the end of the street and then sit down, too scared to continue. so, after a few years we decided it would be best to re-home her. we met these people that matched up dogs with people that were looking for dogs, so we brought lulu to them to see if they could find a match. they soon found a couple that had had many dogs in the past, all very socialized and well-behaved dogs. my parents didn't think it would be a good match because they didn't think the couple would be used to such a stressed, skiddish dog. they decided to take her on a test-walk, to get a feel for her. we believed that the couple would realize how stressed she got on walks and decide not to adopt her, but that was not the case. much to our surprise, she did amazing on the walk, and stayed right next to the couple the whole time. we were very surprised, but happy she was so good. they decided to adopt her. it was sad to see her go, but i was very young and i don't really remember it. the couple sent my mom updates on lulu very frequently, but after a month or so, the updates started to slow down, and then stopped completely. because we hadn't heard from them for so long, we expected the worst. on her birthday (about a year later), my mom texted the couple, wishing lulu a happy birthday and hoping for some sort of update. thankfully, they texted back, apologizing for the lack of updates. lulu was fine, thankfully, but it had been really hard for them because one of them was diagnosed with cancer. apparently, lulu had stay near him, played with him, and kept him company more so than usual. that was also why she was so good on the test-walk they did before adoption. before the diagnosis they thought her behavior was weird, until they realized one of them had cancer, and she was just smelling the cancer and trying to help him. she was the only one during that time that made him really happy, because she was always there for him. thankfully, he eventually got over the cancer, and lulu was there every step of the way <33 we eventually lost touch with them, and now we don't know where lulu is, although she probably passed away a while ago
i have a different dog currently, but lulu was the best first dog ever, despite the circumstances. and she pretty much saved someones life as well so thats pretty neat <3
