I absolutely adore skies and flight in general.Throughout the process of painting this, the color temperature was quite cold. It wasn't until the end that I decided on warmer tones.
There was a white, bright cloud bank layer that was located under Rainbow Dash, but she stood out much better against the darker and stormier base of the background cloud bank. I wound up flipping it and moving it up into the corner behind Fluttershy.
Also, I think I prefer softer eye highlights.
This was drawn and painted entirely in Paint Tool SAI.

Wow, this is wonderful! I love that you included Pinkie Pie in on the action...and the way you did all their eyes really shiny and wide, too. I suppose I must commend you on your cloud placement as well since RD stands out perfectly. :-D
