Autoinflammatory diseases are a group of disorders, most of which are characterized by recurring episodes where the disease is highly active. One of the hallmark symptoms of these episodes is a fever, which resulted in another name, “Periodic Fever Syndromes”. This implies that Autoinflammatory diseases are just recurring fevers, when are really much more than that. While recurring fevers are a hallmark symptom of several Autoinflammatory diseases, other symptoms, including fatigue, a rash, joint pain/other pains, eye inflammation, and other forms of inflammation are very common findings of Autoinflammatory diseases.
The Autoinflammatory Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of Autoinflammatory diseases. It was founded in 2006, and was one of s one of the first organizations dedicated to Autoinflammatory diseases. Originally, it focused solely on NOMID, or Neonatal-onset Multisystem Inflammatory Disease, but it has since expanded to include all Autoinflammatory diseases.
