In case you’re wondering why the former World Cup hosts Qatar 🇶🇦 is at the CONCACAF Gold Cup again is that they are only participating as the guest nation. This is not the first time the Qatari team participated at the Gold Cup. They first participated at the Gold Cup in 2021, they were drawn in Group D with Panama 🇵🇦, Grenada 🇬🇩, & Honduras 🇭🇳, and they topped the group with 7 points and reached the semis, only to fall short to the hosts USA 🇺🇸. And the Qatari team are back at the Gold Cup, but this time, they got a different group. Qatar 🇶🇦 are the first Arab team to take part at the Gold Cup.

As you can see, the Qatari team are drawn in Group B with Mexico 🇲🇽, Haiti 🇭🇹, & Honduras 🇭🇳. Qatar 🇶🇦 will play Mexico 🇲🇽 for the first time ever and of course this will be an exciting match to watch. As for Haiti 🇭🇹 & Honduras 🇭🇳, Qatar 🇶🇦 have played them before. Qatar 🇶🇦 played Honduras 🇭🇳 at the 2021 Gold Cup (previous edition), in which the Maroons won 2-0. Qatar 🇶🇦 first played Haiti 🇭🇹 in a friendly in 2010, losing to them 0-1. The toughest match would be Mexico 🇲🇽, because they are one of the highest ranking teams in the CONCACAF, second behind USA 🇺🇸. The game against Mexico 🇲🇽 will surely be a big test for the Qatari team. But nevertheless, it’s gonna be a good game.

Overall, this is a fairly easy group. Inshallah Qatar 🇶🇦 will finish at least in second place to advance to the knockout stages, if not first. But we’ll see! الله أعلم

Anyway, The Gold Cup will take place between June 24 & July 16, 2023.
