Description
To celebrate my end-of-school, let me share with you guys something I've been holding out on since....some time last year. lol.I did another hand tutorial because the people at Womanthology wanted me to expand on my first tutorial I had on dA.
I hope this helps some of you. Again, like I said before, just keep drawing and don't ever hide the hands intentionally just because you're having trouble drawing them!
This was done for Womanthology

Thanks for the tutorial! Hands are my greatest difficultly and breaking it down into rough sketches and shapes have been helping.

Very 'handy' tutorial, if I must say.
The problem with most people is that they fail to see the hand as a single shape at first, so they focus on fingers first.
Good job!

I always screw up hands, especially when trying to color them. This is amazing!

again thank you for the excellent hand tutorial! As a newbie sketch artist inspired by deviant art, its nice to see its contributing to raise my bars.
on another note entirely, though your fist is drawn beautifully, you never wanna punch like that it has no skeletal support and with enough power you will bust your wrist and probably a couple of fingers. Top knuckles, never your bottom.
Im sure that is well known but i thought i would contribute some of my expertise since you contributed allot of yours.

How do you draw a hand holding an item? Like a knife? I'm drawing Jeff the Killer...

that's really hard to say, because it all depends on the angle, how they're holding the knife, how big the handle is, etc. A simpler way is to really look at your own hand, if you can't find a good reference. Hands dont' erally have a specific "how to", and it's even harder to explain "how" just with words.

O_O Now it seems alot more confusing... Yeah that's a good idea, I'll just go hold my knife xD Thank you anyways

hahaha, what i meant was that there are a lot of angles you can have of a hand holding a knife. are they holding it hilt-up? hilt-down? is the shot from the front? as-in, do you only see the back of the hand? or do you see the fingers? is it a think knife? or a really thick one that the character can't really wrap their hand completely over it? that's why it's hard to help from my end without actually drawing out all the knife-holding poses xD;.

You're confusing my mind... But uh, don't think I'm being to detailed here... o-o The knife is facing up towards his face. It is a shot from his right side and he's holding it in his left hand. (Over detailation! Yay!)He can hold it easily because of the thin grip and he usually has a tight grip due to, well, Jeff the KILLER heh... o-o It should show the fingers, if not one or two would be off shot. O_o You dont have to draw it though XD
