And here's the -3 rebuild that CSX did to some of it's SD40-2s. The SD40-3s had brand new cabs to withstand crashes better, new heating and AC system, new control stand, new visual displays, a WABCO braking controller and a modernized starting system. The total amount of rebuilt SD40-2 into SD40-3s totals to 40 locomotives rebuilt. SD40-3 No. 4384 had it's paint slightly changed on it's low-hood and had 'Clinchfield' over the nose of the low-hood; it has since had the Clinchfield name taken off and replaced with the CSX logo on the low-hood nose.
