The morning smelled of the crispness of Winter, yet the promise of a warm Spring day. Riverfell had survived the brutality of the Deep Freeze, but just barely. Never had Shiloh felt such a cold and, if they were all lucky, they never would again.
As she left her den and began the trip to the Lake of Stars, her mind reflected on the morning of her very first Quarter Feast . It already felt like ages ago. New faces had quickly become close friends and bonds were forged that she knew would last forever. Riverfell had become more than just a home; it was now a full and prosperous family for her. And she would do anything to protect them.
She was not the only wolf headed down to the Lake. Others soon joined her; their conversations snagging her ear as voices laughed and joked. The weight of Winter’s burden was lifting, and with it, the pack’s spirits. She was relieved that the worst was behind them now and each day grew warmer. The remaining pockets of snow that still salted the territory were mainly hidden in the coolest shadows of mountainsides and dense clusters of trees. The brown, hardened grass at their feet was gradually being replaced by fresh green shoots. Soon, the herds would return and the trees would burst with emerald greenery and birdsong. A sea of wildflowers would blanket the distant hills as far as the eye could see.
Shiloh loved Spring.
Quickening her pace, she bowed her head as she passed Bourne and Devina. She threw a cheeky smile at Lynx and Deon as she weaved through the babbling congregation of wolves that had gathered at the foot of a wide, flat boulder near the lakeshore that had acted as a podium for the Quarter Feast speaker for several decades. Hopping up upon the gradually warming stone that seemed to glow from the light of the morning sun, she cleared her throat, then brought herself to sit. All eyes lifted to her expectantly and were met with a smile.
“It’s so good to see everyone, good morning. This Quarter Feast could not have come sooner. I doubt I’ve ever looked more forward to an event in my life. Thankfully, our masterful hunters and expert traders were able to secure us quite a meal, though we ask that portion sizes be reasonable so there’s enough to feed us all throughout the day as we celebrate.
It's hard to imagine we made it this far after the turmoil of Winter. But we were not without loss, unfortunately. Though our search parties scoured every inch of the territory, Yulian was never found. Our hope is eternal that she survived the worst of the weather since no trace of her, living or otherwise, was ever found. It was easily our greatest loss.
We had several other close encounters as tensions rose across the territory. Lines were drawn, rules were broken, but remedies are underway to repair what was damaged. Our truce with the other predators of Riverfell must always be protected and enforced, no matter the season or reason.
Two new wolves have joined the ranks of Gold Feather after successfully completing both their training and final tests. A special congratulations to Gold Feather Deonte and Gold Feather Shera. We’re all very proud and fortunate to have you looking out for us now and expect great things from you both!
A lot needed to be done this Winter that had never be done before. Great risks were taken for meager rewards, but those rewards proved invaluable to our survival.
Some of those risks even led to new additions to the pack. Yseult and her children have joined our ranks, so please join me in making them feel welcome and show them how Riverfell properly --or not so properly-- celebrates the changing of seasons!
We have much to be grateful for and celebrate today. Please enjoy the food, the company, and the festivities. Tomorrow, it's right back to work!”
Hurray for the arrival of the Spring Quarter Feast!
All of Riverfell deserves a break after the events of the Deep Freeze. There's a lot of great content and plots that happened, but just know some things are still in the "wrapping up" stage so keep your eyes peeled the next few weeks for that stuff to roll in if you haven't seen something already. :3c
While there will not be a mass pack-wide RP this round, you're all welcome to pursue smaller RPs and collabs and coordinate over on Discord! I know we all talked about better ways to handle this event (since it was insane last time haha), so feel free to have fun with it and welcome our newest members to the pack.
Just a few reminders from the last event:
Participation in any/all of this Event is entirely optional and just for fun. You can work solo on your own pieces that celebrate the Feast, team up with others for some collabs, whatever inspires you!
you do NOT need to have all of your Quarter Feast-related art/lit/RPs completed before a specific time.
while "fermented fruit" has been a popular treat in other packs' celebrations in the past, it should be reiterated that wolves should not be overly inebriated/drunk. It's a fun treat to enjoy to loosen up, but shouldn't warrant a lot of special attention or focus at all. c: Eat fruit responsibly, folks. lol
Afternoon activity ideas: games/sports (races, zoomie tag, tug-o-war, capture the stick, etc), swimming, naps/sunbathing, brawling/wrestling, and of course, lots of eating!
Evening activity ideas: dancing, singing, "campfire" games, storytelling (scary, epic, funny, etc.!), stargazing, swimming in the Lake of Stars (might still be a bit chilly!), brawling/wrestling, and of course….MORE eating!
