Question 2: Does the character have high ambitions? Does she dream of being a Raider, or even a Sheild? What is her opinion of Valkyries?

Tips for Success

- Your character should have a balanced personality, or at least one that is more negative than positive. This gives them room to grow.
- Consider having your character born into their herd. Changing herds is relatively uncommon in Hireath (slaves not withstanding), and to be quite honest, the 'easy way out' when trying to make an interesting backstory.
- Think critically! Do your character's motivations make sense? Do they fit into the world? Their herd? How do the politics of their people effect their way of thinking? If they disagree with the norm, why? What sparked rebellion in them?
- Your character shouldn't have an accent that's not from Hireath (IE: British, Australian, etc) - those places don't exist in their world! Similarly, they shouldn't speak any language but the Common Tongue. Please don't write your apps in an accent, they make them very annoying to read!
- Don't gloss over the juicy bits! If your character travels from one place to another, tell us what that was like. Hireath is HUGE and full of perils - crossing borders isn't a Sunday stroll through the park!
- Real world religion and their symbols (Crosses, pentagrams) have no meaning in SA. Those religions don't exist, so please, don't put them in your applications!
- Know your herd and its culture well!

Name: Arivanya
Age: 20

Personality--------------------------

~Understanding~
"Tell me your side, young one, and we will see"
Ari will always take into consideration both sides of the story. She will listen, even if she doesn't believe it or doesn't want to hear it. She still will. After she listens, she might try to force her opinion on the matter on you.

~Sternness~
"You will hear me, Father... and you will act upon it."
Ari will find herself in talks and other things that require sternness. This was never a born trait of her, but over time, she has learned to never let the important things go. Some would say this isn' something positive about her, but Ari thinks it is, but can have some negativeness.

~Philomathy~
"But I want to know what is above this world I love"
Ari has a will like no other to learn. Being part of the New Generation, she has so many questions about the world above them. She wanted to know what it was like. Her thirst for knowledge can be somewhat hindering too as it gets her into trouble sometimes.

~Wrath~
"I will cause the rocks to cave in, crushing you all! Just let me out of this grave-hole!"
Ari can have a temper. As a child, it was very uncontrollable, but as she aged, she learned how to control her anger inside. She never really had a reason to be angry so much, but she wanted to leave the underground so bad when she was little. When she is losing her argument, she will get stubborn and angry too.

~Manipulative~
"But what about that outside world? All its wonders and treasures! We should go out and search!"
Ari can be very convincing to others. She can manipulate things besides fire. She always tries to make things sounds bigger and better than what they really are so that others will feel that desire to want them too.

~Inflexibility~
"No. I will not leave it. I have no time for you right now, sir"
Ari is really hard to convince otherwise. She is stubborn and usually doesn't budge when her mind is set on something. There have been a few to move her from where she stands though. Even when listening to all the sides, she will usually pick on in her head and stick with, but still give advice and thoughts about the other.

History:--------------------------

~Birth~

Born gifted with the blessing of fire, Ari was going to be off to a good start in life. Her parents wanted the most for her, in hopes it would insure their lives too. Make them better and seem more valuable to society. Her parents sorta cared about status and being popular. Ari would grow up to be amazing, but she would lose everything during the journey to the top. She was born into a family who followed the old ways, but knew the younger to come would never fall in line. They would always hope though. Ari didn't disappoint them. She was full New Generation as soon as she came into this dark underworld.

~Young Years~
Ari wasn't taught at the right age. Her parents knew the rules and broke them anyways, undiscovered for quite some time. She was taught the lore and history, but they kept her blessing teachings on the low, thinking it would be better if they wait till she was 13. Ari would have a hick up and a flame would be started. They could not keep her from igniting the flame inside of her. She was 2 when she figured it out on her own, that she had the blessing of fire. So she began to practice in private, untaught and extremely dangerous. At this age, Ari became a big sister to Faleen. She was never sure why her parents had another and why they never wished for Faleen to be blessed either.

~Young Adult~
One night, Ari was practicing her fire flames. She would set shards of gems she would steal from the walls of the caves, but gems were really hard to set fire and would mostly just melt down. She heard her sister, who was crying from night terrors she assumed and ran to her only to find a dark shadow then her sister and it vanished. Faleen was never seen again. She screamed and ran to her parents to find them gone too. Ari just turned 13 when her family vanished. She has no idea why and how. She looked for them may years, but nothing ever came about.

~Current~
Today, Ari still remembers her family and still hunts for them, but her duties in this new world as an Echo keeps her busy. She hopes to find her family one day, whether they are dead or alive. She needs to find the truth! Meanwhile, she is working her way up the ranks, wanting to be a Maker.

--------------------------

Question 1: To be born blessed, the character's parents had to pray to Ignacio for their unborn child to receive his blessing. Why did they choose Ignacio, who Breimens typically detest?
I think Alethius (Father) and Elda (Mother) knew that they wanted sometime more for their child. They knew she would not grow up wanting to live the old ways. Despite their general detest for Ignacio, they still prayed to him because I think the gift of Fire was going to be used later. Alethius knew fire could be beneficiary to the underground horses and maybe Ari would remain in the old ways. It was all just to set up their daughters life so that she will rise and become an Echo then maybe a Maker one day. I think Alethius and Elda thought it would insure their lives would be good and meaningful too.

Question 2: How does the character utilize her blessing? Is she proud of it and eager to incorporate it into her life, or is she ashamed and wishes to hide it?
Ari is proud to have her blessing, but always wonders why it was given to her. She is uncertain exactly what her powers can do, and is always looking to learn new ways to use. She does go through times where she doesn't want it because it feels like a burden on her.

Name: Fletcher/Fletch by close friends only (Maker/Arrow maker)

Age: 35

Personality:

Dogged -  Give me one more hour.  I promise I’ll go to sleep then.   Fletcher is intensely focused on whatever project he’s working on.  He will often go days without eating or sleeping when he’s working on a new project, and from time to time his health suffers due to this.  Occasionally, he gets so deep that he stops all contact with friends and family for a time, emerging only when he is successful.

Innovative – If I mix a little of this…and a dash of that…  Fletcher is always trying to come up with new ideas.  As a follower of the New Generation, he believes that moving forward is the only way to create a better and brighter Breim.

Friendly – Hi, how are ya?  Welcome to my shop.  Can I help you find anything?  When Fletcher is not working on a new project, his is extremely outgoing.  He loves to talk and spend time with his fellow herdmates.  When he finishes a project, Fletcher always feels that he needs to “refuel” himself by spending time around others.  Some horses are happy to be near him, and some think it’s a pain.

Curious – So how DOES that thing do the thing?  Fletcher is always ready to learn something new, especially if it relates to his craft.  He loves speaking to outsiders, and awaits the opportunity avidly.

New-Aged – Superstition helps no one.  Fletcher is entrenched in the New Age belief system.  He sees little to no value in the ideals of the Old Generation, and he secretly is quite disdainful of those who follow the Old generation’s teachings.

Lonely – Maybe, if I could just touch her.  Maybe.  For some reason, a cruel twist of fate, or simple bad luck, Fletcher is sterile.  This doesn’t bother him so much, as he has his work to keep him busy, and he doesn’t really care for little furballs getting in the way.  However, Fletcher feels that most mares in Briem would not want a sterile mate, despite the hardships that Breim foals face choosing their faction.  He forces himself to stay away from mares he finds attractive or interesting, not wanting to burden them with his hyperfocus on his work or his inability to offer them children.

Cool – Just calm down.  I’m sure we can talk like adults.  Fletcher is very relaxed, and it is rare to see him become angered.  Even when speaking with “Oldies”, who irritate him, Fletcher keeps his manners about him.

History:

Fletcher’s father, Camelot, was a gray stallion, and his mother, Liel, was a bay dun Jenny.  Camelot, being a Counselor for Briem, spent much of his time away from home.  In fact, that’s where he met Liel.  While on business with an Aodh noble, Camelot caught sight of a pretty Jenny slave.  To the stallion, she was the most beautiful creature he had seen in many a year.   When he finished his business with the noble, Camelot inquired about the mare.  The noble replied that he was aging, and could no longer afford to keep all of his slaves.  He then offered her to Camelot, who quickly accepted.

When they were out of Aodh, Camelot granted freedom to the Jenny, and offered to bring her back to the Breim herd.  She accepted, and they began the journey home.  It was difficult, especially since Liel, being a house slave, was unaccustomed to the grueling journey.  However, after passing through the Drakefire wood, and returning to their home in Nariah, Camelot promptly proposed to Liel.  They were married soon after, and began their life together.

It was just after the Night of the New Sun when Liel gave birth to a seal bay colt.  The pair was elated with their son, and named him Fletcher after a relative of Liel’s.  From the time he was very young, Fletcher was inquisitive, always wanting to build and play with new things.  He went through tons and tons of supplies, making anything from gifts to decorations for his home.  His parents, who were more Old fashioned, due to his father’s job, did not exactly encourage Fletcher’s new-generation thinking, but they allowed him to be himself.

When Fletcher was young, perhaps eight or so, he was exploring the caves with his mother, when they came across a group touting the knowledge and aspects of the new generation.  Liel hurried her son away from the group, but Fletcher was intrigued by their words.  When Liel wasn’t looking later that week, he slipped out and tried to find the group again.  Unfortunately for him, Fletcher didn’t know the significance of the ‘Do not traverse the caves alone’ rule.  He promptly became hopelessly lost.  Terrified, hungry, and crying for his mother, he was found by a kind Briem Echo, who helped him return home.  On the journey, the Echo explained the New Generation’s ways to Fletcher, who pressed for more and more information.

When Fletcher returned home, he announced that on his journey, he had discovered what he wanted to do.  Camelot and Liel, who were glad to see their son returned, felt differently when Fletcher announced that he wanted to become a maker.  Camelot was silent for days, refusing to speak to his son, while Liel pleaded with her only child that he not do this to his family.  Fletcher, however, would not be swayed.

When Camelot and Liel realized that Fletcher would not be cajoled, they offered up an uneasy truce.  The family remained somewhat close, but Fletcher always put his parent’s wishes second to his desire to become a maker.

For many years, Fletcher worked to learn his craft from other Makers and Echoes, striving to become the best maker he could.  By the time he was in his thirties, however, he was feeling despondent.  Fletcher could do nothing to bring himself up, set himself apart from the other Makers.  It wasn’t until that little accident with the ink that he truly became a well-known maker, where he stands today.

Supplementary Questions:

Question 1: Tattoos are usually very personal. What does the character's tattoo mean for him? What part of him does it represent?

To be honest, being the inventor of Imbued Tattoo ink, I couldn’t leave myself without a mark of my creation, now could I?  I’m proud of my work, so why not display it?  The image, Argus, is, I suppose, a bit of an apology to my parents.  I know they don’t like that I chose to follow the New Generation path, but I think that our collective belief in Argus brings us together.  Yes, I do believe in Argus as my patron god.  He’s the one thing that has always brought my family close, and I felt I should honor him with my talent.  I suppose if you were to ask what part of me it represented, I would say a mixture of pride, reverence and blood loyalty.

Question 2: How did the character discover the formula for imbued ink? Feel free to get creative!

Well, you see, it all started with a sneeze.  No, I’m not kidding; wipe that smirk off your face.  You see, one day I was working on a new fabric dye – something that perhaps I could sell and bring in some extra coin.  A lovely golden shine was what I was going for.  To create that, I mixed some ground up gem powder with a special paste, and I was just about to apply it to the fabric.  Well, some of the gem dust must have been floating in the air, because my nose started itching something crazy all of a sudden.  With my materials all laid out in front of me, I didn’t want to ruin them, so I backed up just as I began to sneeze.  I didn’t mess up my work, but my rump banged against a shelf, and a whole bottle of my favorite black ink fell and splattered.  It landed all over me.  At first, I was a little peeved, but my work hadn’t been harmed by the black ink, and I knew it would fade out of my coat with a little washing…or would it?  That’s when the idea hit me.  What if I mixed the paste and some ink-like material together.  I knew a lot of horses in Briem who liked to decorate things.  Why not their own bodies?  Well, I figured it couldn’t hurt to try.

Now, mind you, this wasn’t instantaneous.  It took nearly a year for me to perfect the formula.  You see, the ink can’t harm horses, and the colors had to be just right.  A friend of mine had to help with the imbuing part as well.  But finally, it was done.  And all because of one little sneeze.  How’s that for serendipitous?
