Description Predatory descendants of highspeed biomechanical flying vehicles, the Grummanawks are some of the deadliest things in Heliconia's skies.
What were once cockpits to mysterious pilots are now snapping mouths to engulf their common Emque prey, spotted out by their camera like eye near the end of their beak. The mouth functions also as a stomach, meaning once the Grummanawk has swallowed prey, it cannot open it's mouth until digestion is complete. Some species get around this by stacking prey within their neck to allow more in.
Their bodies are very soft and have an array of shifting muscles that constantly shift the shape and width of the Grummanawk's wings to better suit their flight needs. Powerful jet organs propel these animals swiftly across the atmosphere, pumping air with great force and consistency.

The Tombkat is a pursuit predator, using missiles to frighten flocks of prey apart and separate the weakest to catch and consume.
The Cloudneck hunts by ambush, hiding beneath cloud layers to snatch prey from below.

Though primarily in the air, Grummanawks deploy tread limbs to make landfall on the glassed plains they nest upon. Nesting areas are important for shelter and reproduction, as many species re-purpose their mouth as a womb and become land-bound so energy is saved for larval construction. Other species shed their flesh lining of their mouth to form an egg sac that they'll stick into a secure area so they may hunt freely.
