Chapter 4
Now I’ve never had any problem being around people who hate me; I hope I’ve made that clear by now. So when it comes to fans I never minded spending time with them as long as the crowd didn’t get so big I couldn’t answer any questions thrown at me.
However the only way to do this is to leave the hotel
undetected and slip into a small restaurant. Needless to say that isn’t easy when you’re a fairly popular 400 + pound sumo wrestler…
Lucky for me, the hotel is willing to help me give me a taxi(I may change this) to go anywhere I want to free of charge. They even gave me tinted windows to ensure I could actually have some privacy.
When I go somewhere I make sure to do two things. The first being that I have to make sure the place I go to isn’t too close to the hotel. The closer to the hotel the more people are going to be able to find where I am so I need to make sure it’s somewhere where people can’t gather that easily. The second is I need to go somewhere else every year. Once again I need to make sure it’s hard for too many people to find me, and switching things up ensure people don’t begin to predict me. What can I say, I’m not my sister, but it’s not like I’m stupid.
Making sure I stick to my rules, the ride there is always at least forty five minutes long. I could have slept like I did during the ride with Rosy, but I already got my sleep in from the ride here so I just sat there and tried to remember exactly what happened when I woke up. The details up to now were fuzzy in my mind, but I had time to try and remember what happened.
We slept the rest of the ride there and were awoken, by our
assistant when we landed. As I said before, neither of us know who won the contest. We both emptied our respective buffets, and the robots said he wasn’t designed to measure the mass of an object just by looking.
At first my eyes were hurt by the sudden burst of light when the doors opened. The flight was timed perfectly for us to arrive early morning and we arrived exactly when we were supposed to. When my eyes adjusted I saw we were taken straight to the hotel straight away for our convenience, and the red carpet had been laid out for us, so to speak. It’s actually amazing making the transition from the Earth attitude of our size and the more embracing attitude I get at these tournaments. Guards, both human and machine had to insure the crowd stayed back. On Earth in certain area they have to do the same thing but for all the wrong reasons. Before they were held back to make sure violence didn’t erupt, but here they were held back so we wouldn’t be harassed by fans and reporters.
I first I assumed everyone was here just to see me. They had gathered around for my entrance to the hotel in the past and every time I was by myself. That assumption quickly changed when I heard people screaming Cho’s name as well.
“We love you Cho!”
“Please Cho can I get a quick word?”
“Cho are you still single?”
With the exception of multi time participants and former champions, I had never heard anybody attract the same amount of attention as me. The lone exception perhaps being those random blights on the sport, who did nothing but sit on their asses all day and get fat while having no respect for the sport itself. Even then most of the cheers would be from select people who liked that sort of thing. Cho was being cheered I if she was co champion or something. I knew I would have to ask her when we got inside what was going on, but not before I listened for what people were saying about me first.
“Enorme can I get a better look at you backside?”
“Enorme, given you size, do you think you’ll ever be beaten?”
“Enorme, does your sister feel jealous of your success?”
“Enorme, why don’t you travel with your boyfriend anymore?”
Those last two frankly pissed me off, and I began tuning everything I heard out.
I made a beeline for the entrance and left the crow behind, but from the inside I saw Cho hadn’t picked up her pace like I had. She continued casually walking and waved every couple steps. In the next room over I smelled a wide variety of food being cooked in preparation for the other four competitors most likely already in their rooms. I know it’s probably what they expect us to do, but I never ate any of the food the hotel offered. It’s probably good and all, but eating the food here takes away from the experience in my opinion.
Standing alone with my thought briefly Cho finally caught up, and asked, “Why did you speed up back there? I didn’t hear any negative comments.”
“There were people in the crowd who offended me. I know they weren’t trying to, but with the last to questions they did.”
We made our way to the front desk, and Cho asked another question, “What did they ask about?”
“Well the first of the two, was about my sister.”
“Is that a problem?”
“It wouldn’t be but they were implying my sister held a grudge against me because of how popular I’ve become.”
“Well…does she?”
I stopped in my tracks and she followed suit. I gave her a nasty stare for a while then let out a deep sigh.
“I’ve known my sister her whole life. Sure, it’s possible she may be bothered by my success more than she lets on, but I trust her, and if the matter ever comes up I intend to help her in any way I can. If it got to her that much, I’d hope she’d talk about with me or at least someone she trusts.”
“Sorry for asking I…”
“Don’t be, answering the questions isn’t the issue. It’s just I don’t want to answer a question like that on the airwaves. Sure on Earth channels that feature anything like us are blocked, but even if she never found out, I would never answer a question like that about her.”
We continued walking toward the front desk, and spoke to the bell hop. Neither of us had to say anything though. He already had our keys in hand and gave them to us.
“Your rooms are both on the second floor, and your numbers are both posted on the keys.”
“Thank you” we both said in unison.
“It’s my pleasure really. It’s not every day I get to me celebrities. If you’d like I can have one of the EB-25s carry you bags up.”
Cho spoke up and said, “That won’t be a problem, we only have one bag each.”
“Okay then, but please, if you need anything, please contact the front desk. We here at the So and So Space hotel are prepared for any sumo wrestling related emergency”
Once again in unison we said, “Thank you.”
We took the nearby hallway and waited in front of the elevators for one to come down. Weight limits weren’t really an issue here. They were built with the expectation people our weight would go use them.
The right elevator lit up first and soon opened up. Once again our size wasn’t a factor. On Earth I’d have to wiggle my way through the door but here not a problem.
On our way up, Cho brought eh question back up, “I hate to bring it up again, but what was the other question.”
Giving her a blank expression, I replied, “It was about, my ex boyfriend who I never told the press I broke up with.”
“Ah, say no more, I won’t go any further.”
The elevator opened back up right as she finished her sentence and we walked out. The room numbers for myself and Cho were 213 and 220 respectively.
“Do they always give us so much privacy every tournament?” Cho asked.
“Yeah they do. Two competitors are placed on the same floor at least 5 rooms apart. They normally make sure they’re not too far from the elevator though. It’s done that way just in case someone needs to rush out.”
“Why would anyone need to rush out?”
“Nothing’s ever happened before, but I’d assume what they’re worried about it possible fires, someone being late for a match, or crazy fans.”
Cho’s hand moved to her chin and it looked like she was in deep thought, but I didn’t give her any time to think and gave her a question of my own, “Speaking of crazy fans, why are you so popular with these people? You’ve never been in a tournament before have you?”
“My uncle never let me enter a tournament prior to now, but he did allow me to travel around the different settlements to enter eating contest. Like I said before, I’m trained to eat ridiculous amounts of food. I would often win competitions against women many times my size and as a result I gain some notoriety. I can understand why you never heard of me though. On Earth I’d never make the new, and while here all anyone’s going to talk about is the tournament.”
“Are you saying you went easy on me back on the ship?”
“No, I’m just saying I would have beaten you if we had more food available.”
“Mmhmm…one of these days we’re going to have a more definitive stuffing.”
Cho with a half smile on her face said, “Maybe we will, maybe we will. But for now I should get to my room. I want time to watch some tv before lunch time.”
“Yeah I’ll do the same, see ya tommarow for our match”
“What you’re not going to eat the catering later?”
“No, I enjoy eating out, and the time I can spend with my fans.”
“It sounds to me you just crave attention.”
“While shrugging I said, “Hey call it what you will, but I enjoy answering questions when the crowd isn’t so big they can’t actually hear me like when we walked in.”
“Why wouldn’t it be like that when you went out?”
“All I have to do it walk in a restaurant, promise the people there time to ask me anything, and in turn make them promise not to tell anyone I’m there.”
"What’s stopping them from doing it anyway?”
“The first time I did it someone did blurb, and I just up and left. After that no one dared spread word as to where I was.”
“Well whatever works for you I guess. Maybe I’ll try it next tournament.”
“Excuse me Radcliffe we’re at the desired destination.”
I hadn’t closed my eyes but I was completely out of tune with the outside world. Remembering what happened this morning was like trying to remember was like trying to remember a dream, it was so early.
I turned my head from the window to the driver and thanked him for his help. The boy kept smiling as a got out and the cab leveled back out. I raised my left and stuck it down the side of my mawashi. My face turned immediately as I realized that I had no pockets or money.
“Ms Radcliffe please, you don’t have to tip me. It was my pleasure really.” He reassured.
My face had turned red but I still managed to say, “Thank you. I hope to be able to tip you next time.”
The boy saluted me and drove off. At the end of the road he made a left and I assume he was planning on turning around when he got the chance.
I removed my hand from its spot and repositioned my mawashi to its normal wedgtastic position. Looking around absolutely no one was walking the streets in this area and this was the only restaurant for at least ten miles.
I made my way toward the door and before my hand reached the handle the door swung open and all the people inside cheered and welcomed me. The people’s eye lit up and I could tell they were all attentively waiting to hear what I would say.
Finally I put my hand on my squishy hips and spoke up, "Ladies and Gentlemen, all the way from Earth, I, Enorme The Gigantic have come to answer all your questions. Blast away!
