Great tutorial! Useful for all sorts of smoothing effects, actually.
As an added effect, you may want to consider adding another layer with circuit-boards, etc. I think I might try that myself.

I've never done photo manipulation,
but that cyborg stuff doesn't look too difficult,
probably I'd start with this tutorial, if I ever want to make photo manipulation
