Description
There are many different, and yet similar, approaches to the wielding of magic in Veil.

One of those means is that of sigil magic, but the term is somewhat misleading, as it is not entirely unlike saying someone was playing "notation music". The sigils themselves are not the source of the magic, and do not have any inherent arcane power any more than a manuscript for Beethoven's Ninth sounds like a mighty choral symphony. It describes the spell, but it is not the spell - instead, being symbolic notation that describes the process of performance.

Sigils are a common way to put many of the more technically difficult magical processes in to "writing", although the actual meanings of it are obscure to non-casters in the a similar manner to how the blind don't have context to truly understand the experience of colour. However, the fact that casters use and visualise the sigils as a mnemonic method though means that they do usually end up visible as part of the casting, which plays into the misleading perception that the sigils themselves are possessed of their own magical force.

The analogy to musical performance continues in many ways - even if one can technically read the sigils, it does not inherently mean the caster is capable of performing the spell competently, with sufficient force, or even at all; it still takes a truly skilled caster to be able to channel the most formidable magics.

Fracturing Veil

It is 2018.

The United Kingdom is still arguing over Brexit, Angela Merkel has been sworn in for her fourth term as German chancellor, and a disillusioned AI super-soldier is failing to live a normal life.

After witnessing vampires attack a police officer she'd only just met, the pair are thrown into a world hidden from mortal eyes. Recruited by "Cerberus", they find themselves working alongside a sarcastic half-dragon, a distant arachne sorceress, and other paranormal denizens in order to try to maintain a 500-year ceasefire.
This is the Fracturing Veil.
