Description The Volcanofly (Ardentilampyris atlantisensis) is a species of firefly endemic to the volcanic regions of Atlantis. It’s fossils are rare, but suggest it to be an extremophile, flourishing in harsh volcanic landscapes. Eggs are laid in volcanic soil, and larvae subsist on organic matter within the soil. Adult Volcanoflies are also generalists and feed on any organic matter the landscape offers. Like other fireflies, their abdomens glow in order to display to one another. Unusually, in the wake of increased volcanic activity, Volcanoflies come together and swarm in huge numbers, before mating and laying their many eggs. Yet another entry for the second phase of ’s Atlantis Bestiary challenge in September.
